The body snatcher pod
Hi guys! A few weeks ago I was asking you about shops in Manchester or London to buy CPs... well, certainly there was any specialiced as you told me, but I can get some Nepenthes from Borneo Exotics in London, in a florists near Kew Garden called "The Kew Gardener". On the other side, as I told you, I purchased some Sarras from Hampshire Carnivorous plants and they arrived fantastic at Doncaster. Two fantastic purpurea var heterophylla and a S oreophylla x minor! Do you know guys when I try to take my plane to come back to Spain, I was stopped in the toll because of my plants? It seems that the guards found something strange in my suitcase watching it through X rays and I was toll to open it and show them it contes. They got surprised, examined the plants and I have no further troubles. But it was a curious thing! Well, the topic. I´m caming back to England at the end of January and of course ,as I am not gettin plants in Manchester, I want to purchase some more and send them to my girlfriend´s temporary home, so she can bring them to me to Manchester... I am looking for not very common S purpurea varietys (Irish veinless S purpurea "clone 2" , montana, all red forms, (purpurea smurf if it is possible, but I am afraid that this one is only selled by Gert, in Holland) something like that. I also looking form S minor forms. But I don´t rejet oder kinds of Sarracenia. So, after this long and boring tex, do you guys can reccomend me where to get them in England? I have found this one "Insectenfang plants" http://www.insektenfang.com/ipforum/store/category/172-sarracenia-purpurea/ Do you have experience buying in this shop? Are the plants mature? (well, they specificate "small, medium, large"... I mean, is the medium or large plant a mature plant?) I like their purpureas, but they have run out of some of them. Also have a good number of S. minor forms. The problem is that I have to contac them to tell them when they have to send the plants. (The days before I arrive England) With Mattew of Hampshire Carnivorous plants I have no problem and all was fantastic. Do you know more on line nurseries where I could try? Is Mike King´s Shropshire Sarracenia a shop? I see a large collection of Sarras, but in the web I can see any place to purchase them. Do you know more nurseries? Thaks a lot! Daniel G
Insektenfang belongs to Aidan Selwyn, i can vouch for him. ( a friend of a friend) Mike Kings is also reliable, either of the two would be great!
The body snatcher pod
Thanks! And, do you know, more or less, how big is a "medium plant" and a "large plant" from "insektengfang plants"? I am watching Mike King´s site, but I can only find the 2010 sale list... Insektenfang belongs to Aidan Selwyn, i can vouch for him. ( a friend of a friend) Mike Kings is also reliable, either of the two would be great! ada
Just ask either Aidan or Mike how big their plants are that you want, they don't bite!(aidan and mike that is) Both will be more than happy to discuss your requirements and send them to where you can pick them up from. ada
Marcel van den Broek
Yes, both Mike and Aidan are good. Mike publishes his saleslist once a year but first he works through his wishlist. After that he sends the saleslist to the people in his mail directory for sales so you are better of contacting him and discuss what you want then waiting for a saleslist that is probably halfway sold already before you see it PJ is also good, http://www.pj-plants.co.uk/ and Nigel also has a good rep. http://www.hccarnivorousplants.co.uk/shop/

I don't know if Paul is starting selling in march because of the weather or because he hasn't devided the plants yet but if you're anywhere near his nursery and make an appointment I'm sure you'll be welcome to look at the collection and pick something up or preorder. Paul and Jacky are very friendly, but you'll probably miss the entrance the first time on those ...... narrow and enclosed Hereford roads Edited January 14, 2012 by Marcel van den Broek
Mike King
I am still dividing my plants and have potted more than 3,000 til now. I will have plenty of purpurea and have many minor forms. The potting will be complete soon. If you are only in Manchester, it is about 1 1/2 hours from me if you can manage the trip down here? Hello Mike! Well I think I will be a little difficult form me to down to your nurserie this weekend, because we will be there in a short visit. (And we don´t have our own transport there) But I will do my best to visit you on March or April (it depens on my job). In fact, I will love to se the famous Mike King collection!! I have to fix my working days and get time to travel to England again and visit your nurserie! However, on February, my girlfriend is caming to Spain for a week. If your the sales list is ready ready, I can order plants to the house where my girlfriend lives in England and she can bring then to me. (But, I will sitll see your nursery!!!) Thank you guys for your answers!!!

Paul and Jacky are very friendly, but you'll probably miss the entrance the first time on those ...... narrow and enclosed Hereford roads Well, don´t worry! I will try to go back to England! I am very suprised about the great number of specialiced carnivorous plants nurseries in Englan. There are a lot! Before meeting this forum I always consider that because of the cloudy english weather, it is diffucult to grow carnivorous there. (Specially the most sun demanding) but I seed that I was very mistaken. Also, in my trips to England I have seen thar your wether is not as cloudy and as rainy as it is said. May be here, in the North coast of Spain, we have more clouds than you guys. I don´t know, but summers are quite cloudy here. But not in the rest of Spain, and that´s why I am surprised. Here, with tons of sun (except for the North coast) there is only one or two nurseries specialiced in carnivorous, and, they don´t have by far, the variety of plants and rare cultivars thar english carnivorous nurseries have. (The same for Holland, and Germany, with awfull weather, but good growers with good collections like Gert or Klein) That´s why I try to take advantage of evry trip I do to England to get some plants! hehe! I would love to see some nurseries to! This is a little more difficult form me because I don´t have car in England! (And I don´t dare driving on the left side! ) However, last year I have been in France, and I can visit "Nature et paisages" Nurserie. Beautiful! Quite far from any city, but I dare to drive in France, he he he!
