Fantastic pictures of perfectly grown plants, jp (I bet the initials stand for Jean Paul  )!

Pygmy Droserae have often fooled me by their varying appearance over the seasons and over the years. There have been times I couldn´t differentiate D. echinoblastus from D. citrina - though it´s actually easy when both species are in good shape and health. Also D. mannii have already had broader petioles and roundisher laminae at certain times of the year and later in the year the same plants had more oval shaped laminae and smaller petioles. So both plants, jp´s and Michis D. mannii can be the right stuff. In doubt the gemmae will tell. The gemmae of D. mannii are the only ones I know where the bud sits at the narrow side of the gemma. A small drawing will illustrate better what I mean. :-)

Wait a minute....

gallery_1944_362_3186.png

flat gemma of Drosera mannii: a) fruit body of the gemma; b) bud or germ which will grow into the new plant; c) root appendage

The gemmae of all other species I know bear the bud in the bottom center of the front side of the gemma. (I don´t know all species´ gemmae of course! So, if there´s one who knows a second species with a bud located at the narrow side of the gemmae, please tell me. Thanks.)
