Utricularia in BOLIVIA!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

Last year, I made a trip in South America but it was not especially to search for carnivorous plants.

Nevertheless when I was in Santa Cruz department in Bolivia, I was lucky to visit some interesting tropical biotopes where I probably could find some carnivorous.

I was walking for a while on the road, when I noticed that the soil there was very wet in some place.

Apparently there war some resurgences of water flooding a grassland type vegetation.

The first Utricularia flower I could see was U.tricolor (hope I am right ;-))

Then I find two other different species with yellow flowers growing with the first one. I am not sure about the identification so I prefer wait for specialists.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures but I didn’t have a good zoom to do macro photography.

Finally, there was a fourth REALLY SMALL species with yellow/white cream flowers of 1 mm covering the soil that I didn’t see first time.

My friend took macro pictures where you can see detail of the flower.

Here is a comparison between U. subulata flower and the tiny white Utricularia.

If anyone know what is this Utricularia species, I am interested...

Hope you enjoyed it.

Best Regards,

Damien

Nice shots - I like especially the tricolor pics.

The small Utricularia looks like subulata to me.

Hello Damien,

Nice picss of the Utric with red scapes & yellow flowers! To me, that looks like U.pusilla, whereas the 1st looks like U.tricolor and the 3rd looks like U.subulata.

Congrats!

Fernando
