JimsPlants
Is anyone else desperate for some rain water? Its been like a month since weve had a drop and im on my last few litres. I decided to clean the water butts out and scrub the inside thinking we should get some good rain in april but nothing! I dont really want to have to go out and buy distilled, im getting through about 3 litres a day somehow. Rain!

LoopyLee
According to the BBC forecast it's going to rain heavily here in Oxfordshire tomorrow afternoon and then be sunny for the next few days after that.. Hopefully I can get a little rain water into my new water butt at last..

It can rain anytime it wants to as long as it's between 8pm and 6am, that way I won't get wet on my motorbike on the way to and from work! Loakesy
I'm nearly dried out too. We have just had a quick, hard shower, but unlikely enough to do any good!
Phil Green
I was only wondering on Friday how long it would be before people start panicking. It is still only Spring and plants aren't using much water (or evaporating) yet - so if you are in trouble now, you will have serious problems come the Summer (I hope we get one). If you are going to grow CP's, you really do need to invest in Water storage and lots of it. I've added another 330Lt of storage this winter and now store about 1300 Lts - Which may not be enough if we get a long dry Summer. The other important thing is collection - find a way to collect as much of what comes down as possible. Summer showers often are fairly light, so it's important to make the most of it. Last year as well as increasing my storage, I increased the amount I collect. You can get 210Lt water butts from Wilkinsons for £20 - Go out and buy some. And remember - every time you add 'just one more' plant - it uses more water, so you need to compensate for it. EDIT - 10.54am, it has just started to rain (shower) here although it doesn't look like we'll get much. I'm not panicking, especially now I know I can get hold of the RO water from the shop round the corner.. Plus I have my new water butt in the garden now

For the future, as a 'guide', calculate 5 litres storage for every plant you have and you will be on the safe side in case we have a reat of very dry summers like 1994,1995, 2003 and 2006. Stefan P
We've got a 1000 litre pond, so, if worst come to worse ;)
gardenofeden
I've got plenty, my 400 gallons capacity filled up over winter and is still nearly full. I calculated I can last about 3 months without any rain at all.
Rob-Rah
We've got a 1000 litre pond, so, if worst come to worse ;) Be careful, pondwater is often either heavy in nitrates or alkaline.

Jonathan F.
Can you use water from a Brita Filter Jug? As I have spent £30 on RO water and need more.
JimsPlants
I wouldnt personally use anything from the tap. But the brita might make it slightly better.
