Dode
Someone kindly dented my car and never left any details!!! I got a quote of £400 to fix said dent. I phoned my insurance company, who said no problem. £200 excess and my insurance would increase by......£200 approx as they have no-one to claim against(I know the feeling). What a helpful insurance company Sainsbury are. I must remember at renewal time of how helpful they were.
mobile
I think that all insurance companies would have said pretty much the same. You can decrease the excess on renewal but they increase the policy price to compensate. Protected no claims would have saved on losing your no claims but again you have to pay a premium on the policy.
Dode
I have protected no claims. I finish up paying to fix it either way, its just very annoying especially as it is not my fault. The last time I got hit by a drunk driver (whilst stationary) and my insurance still went up! I cant win.

By far the cheapest option if you are handy at such things. Me, I just drive an old car and dont bother with cosmetic things, saves a whole lot of hassle, money and stress of dealing with these insurance types and their forms.
