pmatil
Hi all, I just bought this Nepenthes from a local shop. Although the pot says Alata, it's not. No pitchers at the moment. The reason I bought it was the leaf shape which is something I didn't recognize. Any ideas? Edited March 27, 2010 by pmatil
Dave Evans
Yeah, wait for some pitchers... Seriously, it doesn't really disagree with N. alata at this point.
mobile
Most shop bought alata are actually ventrata but the leaves on this one look a little different. Interesting lights you've got above your Cephalotus, what are they? Edited March 27, 2010 by mobile
pmatil
mobile, the lights are 5 watt power LED lights. Color temperature is about 6000-6400K. At least cephas like. They color up nicely As for the nep, someone suggested N. Copelandii. Still not sure about that...
alipe
Could it be a x Miranda?
Jimmie Hansen
I would go with the Miranda as well. I seriously doubt its Copelandii due to the leave shape and the fact that its a GC plant.
Tha_Reaper
short pitcher "stalks", leaf form, GC plant... hookeriana maybe?
manders
All guesswork at this stage, wait until it's bigger, with pitchers and ask again.
Clue
Don't rule anything common out at this point. I would have to say that the leaves match up well with my xMiranda and maxima, though.
pmatil
Finally, a pitcher. And today it opened. Here it is:
Marcel van den Broek
I would say Nepenthes x mixta (northiana x maxima). It is common as a gardencentre plant in Europe.
Taliesin
Could you tell me which garden centre ? All i ever find is ventratas and rebecca sopers.
pmatil
Marcel, thanks a lot! It sure looks like N. x mixta. I have to wait and see and compare to other photos of mixtas.
Marcel van den Broek
Could you tell me which garden centre ? All i ever find is ventratas and rebecca sopers. You'll find them now and then at Intratuin, but yes most are ventrata and a dark clone that is more often then not NOT rebbeca sopher but a Carniflora plant, though the real deal is sold sometimes. About 5 years ago mixta started to give way to the darkies as counterpart of the ventrata's but it is still sold. You just have to get lucky
Taliesin
I found a huuge beautifull miranda once in a little shop while i was touring with my bike once. It was like 1 meter wide with 30 cm pitchers but it was to big to transport for me
