Part 2

I also visited Khao Sok NP on the mainland.

sokmantis.jpgsokspider1.jpg

A large Praying Mantis that I found lurking outside the toilet in the night. In the morning I found this very flat spider nearby.

sokkatydid.jpg

A katydid mimicking a fresh green leaf which one of the locals found, and placed on the table.

Next day we hiked on one of the main trails in the park. With the help from the experienced guide we were able to find some animals. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do this walk at night, I suspect there would have been more activity then.

sokwagleri.jpg

This pit viper rested on a fence at the trail - probably a Tropidolaemus wagleri.

sokagama1.jpgsokagama2.jpg

This species of agama seemed to be quite common here. There were some color differences between the individuals, but in shape they pretty much looked the same. Possibly there were male and females, and some wore dominance colors.

soktarantula.jpg

A tarantula in its lair. The light of the flash made it back in deeper.

sokdragonfly.jpgsoknephila.jpg

A pretty red dragon fly which was a common sight here, and golden orb-weaver - Nephila.

sokbutterfly1.jpgsokbutterfly2.jpg

A couple of butterflies - some were quite large. The blue ones were supposed to be quite difficult to approach, at least according to the guide.

sokmacaque.jpgsoklizard.jpg

Some macaques approached us trying to see if we might have something to feed them, and finally a small lizard.

Regards,

Christer
