nadja77
Nice flowers! Now if only they were easier to find in cultivation!

Tuuagso
Thank you so much for sharing those wonderful pictures. What is the substrate they grow? It doesn't seem like peat moss and it doeasn't seem to be poor.
Alexander Nijman
Beautifull pictures, and gorgeous habitads! About cattle trampeling the soil there, in the old days that job was done by elefants. They where found all over South Africa ride down to the Capetown area! Well South Africa is a plants paradise anyway! Alexander
rwharold
I just received today a Drosera cistiflora 'purple flower' from California Carnivores. Attached is the advertised plant and the purple flower: https://californiacarnivores.com/products/drosera-cistiflora-purple-flower-deluxe-potted. The plant that I received looks almost exactly like the one that was advertised. Does anyone have any idea on how long it will take to reach flowering size? Any cultivation, feeding, and growing instructions? Edited March 9, 2016 by rwharold
SoLongFairWell
I don't think it'll flower this year Richard. It looks a bit young. I'm only in my first season growing D. cistiflora and mine is bigger and has flower buds forming. The dormant roots I received must have been more mature. I'm just following the instructions in The Savage Garden. There is also a guide to growing D. cistiflora going around. I have it somewhere downloaded. Fling me an email and I'll send it on to you. rwharold
Richard, Thanks for sending me the email information about the Drosera cistiflora 'purple flower'. It was VERY useful. I guess that I will just have to patient for it to grow more and finally flower. Do you have any guess how many years that might take? Another separate topic. on September 11/2015, I purchased a Drosera capensis 'narrow leaf' Deluxe Potted from California Carnivores (https://www.californiacarnivores.com/products/drosera-capensis-narrow-leaf-deluxe-potted). Since that time, with periodic feeding of Beta MICRO Floating Betta Pellet Food, it more than doubled in sized and recently flowered twice with a little over 5o flowers, which I had hand pollinated with a small brush, and they have since died and I let them dry completely. They all must contain seeds. Do you, or anyone else, have a use for these seeds. I will be more than happy to mail them to you or whomever wants them. Best regards, Richard
SoLongFairWell
I have no idea how long that will take to flower but hopefully someone else will. Perhaps take a photo of your plant and start a new topic asking how long. Why not sow your D. capensis seeds for yourself? They're very easy. I have no use for them as they're already a bit of a weed in my collection. Thanks for the offer though.
