Marcus Vieweg
Hi folks! As I had a telephone call with a friend this day, I used the time to take some pictures of my ping-tank. The pictures aren't that good for me cause the lighting is bad. But to have a little idea of the collection I think it will do. When the Pings will be in flower I'll try to take some proper pictures! ;) For now: First that's my Cephalotus. The pitchers are ca. 3-4cm heigh, it's the largest Pot I own... Indeed the only genus that is allowed to pass the winter with my beloved Pings! P. ibarrae The first flowers of P. gracilis are just showing. And P. rotundiflora does the same! Also P. jaumavensis ... and P. nivalis get ready ;) Well, here also some winterrosettes. P. laueana P. gypsicola P. potosiensis P. acuminata P. kondoi I hope for flowers. They are indeed wonderful. And last but not least P. moranensis f. orchioides So I hope you like at least the plants, if the pictures aren't really the best. :-) Regards Marcus! jimfoxy
Great shots of the fresh Winter rosettes, Marcus, and a lovely show of multi-tasking! Is your media almost completely dry now? Mine are a few days behind yours.
Petr D.
Superb plants Markus! Those pings are amazing ;-) May I ask what are the soil ingredients ? I always wanted to try peat free substrate, seeing how well they do in it. Thanks for sharing. Petr
Marcus Vieweg
Hi, thank you for your kind remarks! @Jim: The media is now nearly bone dry. Especially for P. gypsicola it's very necessary. I only give water every 2 weeks, but only very little amounts in each pot. @Petr: No problem! The media is 100% inorganic. I normally use (all in pots) 2 times perlite, 2 times vermiculit, 1 time Lava, 1 time Seramis, 1 time Sand ca. 2-3mm, 1 time fine white sand, 1 time pumice stone (I hope that's the right word for it) and if I have 1 time Bentonit. Don't know if that is the best media. For me it has some advantages I never want to miss again: - Fast wet, fast dry - airy - no vermin - very easy to use Some people I know mix it with a little bit of peat. You'll have to try... jimscott
Very nice collection... and aesthetically placed pings!
nadja77
They really are beautiful. Now I am going to have to add pings to my collection! Are they easy to grow from seed? Edited November 4, 2009 by nadja77
Marcus Vieweg
Hi nadja77, I think starting with seed's is relatively difficult! It's not the problem to get the seeds started, but after 2 or 3 weeks the plants often die without noticable reason.... The best way is buying little plantlets made of root cuttings. But then again I won't find out if I don't try again lovely plants! Regards Nadja

Maybe they need more organic material in the media. I have a bit of compost in my media.
nadja77
I usually have no problem with seeds. Maybe they need more organic material in the media. I have a bit of compost in my media. Since I have not grown any I don't know much at all on how to germinate them and if successful how to keep them happy. I remember vaguely reading somewhere that they do enjoy a richer mix than most Cp's. But of course I could be wrong.
