Flytrap that flower in autumn

Everytime around this time of year my flytraps send up a flower - why? Surely there is no point to a flower this time of year? Anyone else get this? As soon as I cut the flower stalks off they go to sleep for the winter!! Do they Do this in the wild do you know?

I have had this happen several times in the past -- and have also seen it in the field over the years. It may have to do with a longer photo-period or a particularly extended period of warmer weather. This year I have had single plants send up multiple flower stalks, the last seen a week or so ago . . .
