flycatchers
Hi I am finding these tiny green caterpillars amongst the most destructive of all the regular pests. Particulary Darlingtonia seem very effected, and whats worse is they seem to target the growing point! So it them rots and causes at least a bit of plant died back!! With my larger plants it is quite difficult to go through them to guarantee that there are none hiding away. I have used Bug Clear which lists caterpillars but is not systemic so if they are hiding inbetween sewn together leaves are not likely to be dealt with. I have tried 'Provado Ultimate Bug Killer" which is systemic but does not list caterpillars, so I guess is unlikely to kill them? Any other solutions? I also suspect that once chewed the plant is somehow poisoned (at least in the short term) as the much tougher Neps leaves when eaten cause the new growth to become distorted and blotchy in colour. It takes several new leaves before this effect wears off. cheers bill

andyoliver
Provado ultimate bug killer is very good and kills them (not many pests live with this sprayed on them I find), as Stephen said. Does not harm the plants either. Edited August 14, 2009 by andyoliver

Edit: Just checked the Bayer site here, no Provado anywhere. One of the other products must be comparable.
