danthecpman
Hi All I know this sounds a bit of a simple question but i was just wondering does anyone know would a cross between Flava var rugelii and Purpurea ssp purpurea still be classed as a catesbaei? I ask this because i have only ever heard that they are crossed between Flava and purp ssp venosa. Just needed to know because one of my rugeliis seed pods that i hybridised has started to open and was wondering if i should label them as catesbaei? Kind regards Dan Edited August 8, 2009 by danthecpman
gardenofeden
the cross is flava x purpurea, so the var or ssp. do not matter (unless you agree with the S.rosea naming convention which then means a different name for this cross) however I would keep the full name of the parents (ie flava var rugelii x purpurea ssp purpurea) on the label as this gives extra information eg the purp purp cross would be hardier than the purp ven cross so would be more suitable for growing outside....
