Hi

Googling around looking for images of CP's I come across descriptions along with a number and sometimes a letter.

eg

SM02 S. minor var. okefenokeensis the SM for Sarracenia Minor, but where is the number derived from?

and

SL10 S. leucophylla -- white top, fine red veins ( L34-MK ) SL for Sarracenia Leucophylla but what does L34-MK refer to?

Is there a faq here or link to somewhere that explains what they mean?

thanks

Bob

Hi Bob.

They are simply reference codes for individuals to manage their collections for example...

SL10 S. leucophylla -- white top,fine red veins ( L34-MK )

SL10 is the persons coding for his own collection but he obtained the plant from Mike king in this particular case who has coded the plant previously as L34 who may have incidentally obtained this plant from another grower using a different reference.

So things can get confusing especially when you have two plants in your collection both obtained as say A23 and are two different clones of S. alata.

When listing plants I prefer (and would like to see others) list plants for example such as MK-A23 or ST-A23 where the persons initials precede their code, Of course we all keep records of where we obtained the plants along with characteristics of the plant.

Regarding my own listing I tend to just quote the persons code I had the plant off and the name of the person, Only with my own seed grown plants do I set my own personal code but then again I have no where near as many varieties and forms as some so cannot criticise.

I'm sure more informed input will follow.

Hope this helps.

Ian.

They are all just personal referance codes.

Anythin in brackets just refers to someone else's code. So ( L34-MK ) means L34 from Mike King.

Lol, Your version is a lot simpler Phil (I always did over elaborate)

Hi Bob,

I have been trying to list the better known clones in the deconfusifier, which is available online:

Deconfusifier

This is the link to the page explaining the list - scroll to the bottom of the page to find the link to the list itself.

Hope it is of some use to you - I am currently updating the list, so some of the links to pictures are probably broken (but will be fixed before long).
