Is this sphagnum moss

That's not sphagnum moss, although I'm pretty sure that pesky little plant has made its way into my collection as well. Sphagnum moss likes it very moist so it wouldn't do well with cactus at all. If you are able to get ahold of some you can seperate it out and grow it in its own pot. Type 'sphagnum moss' into google image search if your not sure what it looks like.

Ahh ok, my mistake, this is still all new to me. I guess I will buy some live Sphagnum moss from a garden centre. I only thought it was kind of moss looking becasue the cactus soil is always wet and has been for at least 6 months and the plant in the pic is really springy. I have looked at some more pics of sphagnum and I can now see it's obviuosly not what I thought it was. Worth a post though :biggrin: Thank you.

You would do well not to keep your cactus wet all the time, as the weather gets colder the plant will rot from the root upwards.
