Clue
As part of an upcoming trade, I am (probably) receiving an unrooted Nepenthes tobiaca cutting. What would be the best way to attempt to root this cutting? I would prefer to use water rooting, but has anyone had success in rooting this species in this scenario? Should I just root it regularly in Sphagnum? Just to make this topic a bit more generalized, what species of Nepenthes have you rooted successfully in water? mobile
I've only ever tried to root Nepenthes x ventrata in water and it didn't work. The cutting stayed green but it showed no sign of roots after many weeks. I transferred it to sphagnum moss and it took root.
jimscott
I've successfully done this with ventrata and Judith Finn... but these are about the easiest Neps out there. I'll post a picture later of the ventrata.
schimatrix
ventrata and ventrinermis rooted in water for me quite easily
nadja77
Is there anything specific that can be done to help the cuttings root? Would it be a bad idea to add rooting hormone to the water if changed frequently?

Most Nepenthes species will readily root in water, especially the larger "woodier" varieties and I have had a good deal of success with the technique. The water should be changed frequently -- every week or even more often . . .
jimscott
I didn't add any chemicals at all. I just changed the water if it got cloudy.
