As things stand at the moment there will be no journal this year. To date I have had precisely two articles - neither even from CPS members! Very generously I have been given some previously published material by Stewart McPherson and while I am happy to use a couple of Stewart's articles I am not going to pad out an already sparse journal with these. If anyone has anything they'd like to be published please send it to me via the email link on the CPS website. You don't have to be a genius or an expert to write for the journal. You just need to have something to say. I can help with layout, construction etc. I'll even re-write the thing for you if you ask me nicely! Photos with your article are desirable though not essential strictly speaking. If you do send any images they must be high resolution. Not my fault - the printing process makes standard low-res images look horrible! Ideas for articles can include cultivation techniques, travelogues, your favourite plant/species/hybrid or construction of your growing area. Just to name a few. At the start of the society we had more then one a year. It's may help if news for shortage of items was put on the site of the society half way through the year as even if you got too much they could alway put to the next one. And a posting on this good forum with closing date and asking for more items would may help. If I done a write up like did many times for the newsletter, but bigger & photo's would I waste my time as I may not be able back in the society after putting my dismay of lack replie to re joining member? Years ago, when I was a member of the CPS, journals, newsletters and books were my only sources of information on CPs but now I turn to the internet every time I'm looking for such information. To a certain extent this is true of course and it is one reason for the general decline in membership of the CPS - and pretty much every other CP society worldwide for that matter. The Internet is very easy to access of course and there is a ton of information there. In fact one of the projects I have on a very low backburner is to get some of the past journals on line. I do think there are still advantages with info in print though. One very definite advantage is that you almost never get high res photos on line. But also there is something about handing the printed product. How many people can read a book on a computer screen? Not me for one. And of course the other advantage is that you can put a printed journal on a bookshelf and then re-read it ten years later. Try that with some Internet sites! I've threatened a few times but usually things have turned up in the post or my in box to save the day. I thought it was going to be okay but a few people I've nudged for contributions have had other priorities. This happens of course. It's called life. :-) I've already had an offer from Stephen on this thread. Maybe if I can persuade a few more people to put computer byte to file (I think that's the equivalent of pen to paper!) then there will be enough to get going. Put something together when you can and I'll use it either in the current or next journal. D. cistiflora would be very interesting! how about something on the flower colour variation.
