Recommended Posts

As the title of post says; How do you keep your growlist ?:

On paper, hand written ?

On paper, printed off ?

Printed off ?

Printed off with pictures?

Placed online?

Placed online with pictures?

Committed to memory ?

Most of mine are held is held in the virtual realm, but I intend to print off a hardcopy shortly.Have not done so for a few years as plants always seem to be added to list

No pictures

Simply names and numbers of plants

I use excel too and have a list on the forum though the forum version only gets updated every so often.

Andy - you should be able to link to photo's and other docs from excel.

I've tried, but always failed. How do you do it Heather?

If you right click then go to hyperlink you should be able to select a document from there to link to. Same thing for linking to web pages from excel.

Hope that helps, if not let me know. Ofcourse you need to remember that if you move the location of the linked photo you will need to amend the hyperlink to tell it to look in the new location.

Same for me.

Main version is on an Excel spread sheet, with another link with some pic's on here, but not updated as often as my main one.

I do sometimes print off a copy.

Also, after the accident a few years ago when my growlist on here go deleted :P I have a version of that backed up in a note book file on my comp. I really don't want to have to type all that in yet again and it's even longer now.

That works!

I was hoping to have it so that the photo would appear as you hover the cursor over a box, much like the notes feature. But that will do for now! Thanks Heather!!

Glad to be of help Andy - no idea if its possible to do it like the notes feature I'm afraid and to be honest I'm not sure my pc would cope very well with having so many images directly on the spreadsheet, it would no doubt take be really slow to load etc for me so I prefer the hyperlinks.

Good point made by Phil - anyone who keeps their grow list on their computer really needs to have a back up just incase the worst happens. I keep a copy on a memory stick to avoid that potential disaster!

Andy,

With regards to your labelling of plants...use both sides of the label.

Name on one side, using both lines.Location and number on the other.

If you printed off a copy of list and either placed it in a bound plastic folder or sealed it in someway, you would have a copy to hang in your greenhouse, as a referral guide.

Good point. My computer is slow enough as it is...

Not a bad idea. The only problem being that I appear to be adding plants on a near weekly basis, so the printed list would be out of date in no time at all, and generated no end of felled trees in waste paper! :(

I'll answer the other part on the printer thread!

I sure wish I'd listened to this advice!! I managed to drop my external hard-drive yesterday, while trying to connect another, and now I can't get the blasted thing to work. I'm hoping there's just a loose connection or perhaps the reading head has become misaligned or something. Otherwise my entire growlist info, as well as about 100Gb of music and all my CP related downloads etc etc are gone!

Gutted of Bromley!
