There have been several posts on the forum over the years with regards to neem oil as an insecticide. Whilst surfing around the internet I came across THIS site on neem oil which I found interesting.

Thanks.. it was an interesting read.

I was wondering, while reading it, why neem oil affects some of my tropical sundew so, particularly derbyensis and ordensis, but not my paradoxa.

My ordensis was affected by aphids and I applied a diluted 50/50 neem-water mix via a small paint brush at the spots where I saw the little bugs. 10 mins later I rinsed the plant thoroughly.

A day later, those spots where the diluted neem was applied started turning black. I'm wondering now whether I should amputate those parts of the leaves.

50/50 neem oil and water I am not surprise they turn black it would be too strong mix for any plant . You need to buy neem oil that's used for gardening then you know how much water to mixed with it .

There are recipes for making your own neem oil spray on the website I linked to.

For a neem garden spray 0.5% to 1% is a good general purpose solution. Depending on the purpose you may want to increase that to up to 2%.

Thanks.. I didn't know you could buy neem oil as an conc product (prob not in Singapore anyway). My neem oil is actually from a neem garden spray. I diluted it a further 50% and it still blackened the leaves of my ordensis (wasted parts now trimmed off)..

It's fine on my burmanni and capensis (esp. resilient against neem oil spray).. just the 2 plants I mentioned are esp. sensitive to the stuff. I'm wondering why this is so if its effect on insects is hormonal rather than a neurotoxin.
