Loakesy
I received mine today. Now, I haven't been a member of the Society for that many years, but this is the best I seen so far!!! Good work by all concerned!! But why the change of format again? I actually prefer the A5 format to last year's A4 format, so I'm glad of the change, but if the format keeps changing, my bookshelf is going to start looking really messy!! SamInLondon
Mine arrived today - with £1.39 excess postage to pay, for some reason! But it looks like money well spent - a very well produced and interesting-looking issue.
Loakesy
Mine arrived today - with £1.39 excess postage to pay, for some reason! Me too, but I didn't have to pay anything!
SamInLondon
Me too, but I didn't have to pay anything! I assumed my housemate had paid and that I'd have to pay him back, but maybe it was free! hurrah!
pwilson
I received mine today. Now, I haven't been a member of the Society for that many years, but this is the best I seen so far!!! Good work by all concerned!! But why the change of format again? I actually prefer the A5 format to last year's A4 format, so I'm glad of the change, but if the format keeps changing, my bookshelf is going to start looking really messy!! It was a last minute decision to change from A4 to A5 format. Personally I prefer the A4 format but there are some compelling reasons to stick with the smaller layout. For one - photographs. To use a photo full sized in A4 format it needs a very high resolution image. Far higher for instance than most digital cameras even think about going to. The other factor is cost. Not surprisingly A4 costs about twice as much to print, twice as much to ship from the printers and probably twice as much to send out - assuming the post office get the postage right... :-) Personally I think cost is important but not an overriding factor. We now have a very good printer who does a 100% professional job at a very good price and getting the journal looking right is more important than saving a few quid. Just don't say that to our treasurer. :-) And finally there is personal preference. Some members do prefer the smaller layout. An A5 format does give the impression of a booklet whereas A4 feels more like a magazine. All are important considerations. But if the demand is there I think it's worth the extra expense. Maybe we should conduct a small poll to see which format is prefered among members on this forum? I'm serious - getting feedback from the membership is important. Loakesy
Thanks, Phil!! I certainly didn't dislike the A4 version, but I definately prefer the A5 version! And if it save the society money, what other reason do you need to produce such a good quality journal in this format.
gardenofeden
I prefer the A5 I certainly did not like paying the £1.39 excess postage though. There will be several hundred pounds of excess paid overall no doubt....
Marcel van den Broek
I didn't have to pay extra, so us internationals are lucky On the size question, I like the A5.
pwilson
I think that's 3-0 in favour of A5 then. :-) Or maybe that should be 3-1 because I ever so slightly come down in favour of A4. In fact, without wishing to sit on the fence on this one, I quite like a non-standard size roughly between A4 and A5. About the same size as the National Geographic magazine.
