brad
Recently Mike King provided some very interesting information regarding the Venus Flytrap ‘Slack’s Giant’. Simply, that photos of the true cultivar ‘Slack’s Giant’ VFT are published in the excellent book “Carnivorous Plants” by Adrian Slack, from 1979. There are several photos of Dionaea muscipula in this great book, but which ones are the ‘Slack’s Giant’? Help, Mike, anyone!!!!! I have the Hardback Book. Here are the pages with VFT photos: 1. Page 2-3 Large black and white two page photo, with trapped crane fly? 2. Page 17 Small black and white photo? 3. Page 154 Full page black and white photo of two VFT, the one in foreground is semi upright, the one behind is in full upright growth? 4. Page 157 Full page color photo, with red VFT trap? 5. Page 222 Small black and white photo of portion of first photo with trapped crane fly? Which of these photos are ‘Slack’s Giant’ VFT? Mike King
Hi Brad, To me it the one on page 154, that is exactly the habit of SWG..
brad
Thanks Mike, This is still a much better picture than the one attributed to Tony Camilleri when using the term ‘big mouth’ in his CP book. However it is a tough picture to get the best sense of VFT ‘Slack’s Giant’. I am sure there must be other old published pictures of VFT ‘Slack’s Giant’ around. Would be nice to see some other photos. I doubt any CP hobbyists need clarification of Mike’s usage of the abbreviation for this plant as SWG. But for those who don’t, it is for VFT SW Giant or SouthWest Giant, which was originally the plant of Adrian Slack. Take care, Brad Ventura California
