Peter22
As you all know, I'll be gone for christmas for two weeks. I just got bought some Hybrid Venus Flytrap seeds. They're very fresh and just harvested according to the seller. Should I sow them all right now and leave them in the terrainium to grow over vacation? I'll be leaving in two weeks, so if sowed right now it'll be four weeks of sowing them. Do you guys think they'll sprout before I go? If they do sprout will they survive the two weeks without me being there? If not, I plan of wrapping the seeds in wet paper towels for four weeks and throwing them in the fridge, then sowing them when I get back. Will that actually improve the germination rate or make it worse? I've heard of storing them in a dry airsealed container, and was wondering how you actually do that. Does the size of the container matter? And does that decrease gemination rate? I would strongly appreciate all advice!
Guest Aidan
VFT seed is generally best sown fresh. However, if you wish to store it for any length of time, store it dry in a sealed container in the fridge (do not freeze). You could for example use an old 35mm film can or keep the seed in an envelope in a sealed plastic food storage box.
Peter22
Opps...I already put them on a moist piece of paper in the fridge. I'll be leaving on the 24th so If I sow them on the 23rd of December, do you think that's enough time for stratification? That will be three weeks in the fridge. Guest Aidan
VFT seed does not require stratification. I advise you to sow it now if you have already made it wet. Frederick
I sowed mine a month ago in the terrarium under TL. They seem to do ok under a few 33W lights, but don't sow them to close or they might have trouble in the following year.
