Loakesy
In the past, when putting a mini-bog together, I have used the 'bucket-in-the-bottom-for-a-reservoir' method! I've now sunk a bath tub in the alottment, ready to make a bog garden, and wondered whether it was worth using the same method, or not bother? AndrewLuton
The last mini bog I made I didn't bother with the bucket and water from the top just like what it would get in the wild. All plants are growing well. You would also need quite a large bucket!!
Loakesy
I've found that the bucket has two roles. The obvious one - retaining a reservoir of water. The other - they take up valuable space you would otherwise have to fill with more peat! I was thinking of a few medium/small flowerpots. Guest Aidan
Find something to use as an inert filler. Otherwise, as you point out you are going to need a hell of a lot of media to fill a bath!
Loakesy
Until now I've been throwing as many (cleaned) garden stones (avoiding bits of brick and broken flowerpot!) as I can find into it!
gardenofeden
don't use polystyrene as a filler, it is slow poison...
Loakesy
Righto! I'll remember that one. Thanks Stephen!
