TheCarnifreak
I just read something about someone burns his CP-bogs every year in februari. Has anyone tried this too? What was your experience? Cheers, Ries
Trev
Hi Ries, I'm surrounded by mountain bog where I live. The majority of the hillsides are covered in thick coarse bog grasses, the native CP's can only survive where something keeps the ground relatively clear otherwise they get smothered. They seem to thrive where the sheep, cattle or people regularly walk or where peat has been cut in recent years or where there has been a fire. 2 years ago the council workers turned up to clear a ditch that kept overflowing onto the road near my house, I panicked because it has a lot of P. lusitanica's growing in it, they couldn't dig it deeper because it's bedrock so I convinced them to dig another drain behind it where it would catch some of the water before it made it in to it. They did this and now 2 years later the new ditch is covered in thousands of P. lusitanica's, eventually the grasses will cover it and smother them out. Trev.
