flycatchers
I should be able to Change the sphagnum (500g compressed block, only a small corner used). If I leave the used lfs out to dry will it be fine to use again (killing all the larva)? The end was more of a black colour (well completly black), not the browny color of a cut apple, is that bad? Hi I have cuttings that have gone completely black and still sprouted new growth. If it goes black and starts developing mould them it is time to throw it away. Otherwise just leave it and wait and see... cheers bill
Nepenthes Nut
Ok, I have replaced the lfs so there should not be any more larva eating the cutting. Bill, thank you for the reassurance, time to leave it be for a few months. Should I keep it water logged or let the tray evaporate before adding more water? SPECIALIZED
let it evaporate and let the tray stay dry for a day or two. Keep it warm and in bright light for about 16 hours a day if you can. I have two little basal shoots that I puled off about 6 months ago. Since they they have only made one new leaf, and no pitchers. Currently (six + months later) there is a decent size pitcher developing on one of them.

I don't stand my plants or cuttings in water. But water from above when the compost gets a little drier. But in the greenhouse that still means watering about every couple of days. The water goes straight through the compost as LFS is so free draining. Since I started treating my Neps cuttings as plants without using any rooting liquids or powders and putting them in a pot where they will remain once they take I have had much more sucess. Good Luck cheers bill
Nepenthes Nut
ok illl water it every few days and drain the tray after watering. Is using artificial light 24hrs good or bad for the cutting? Does it need a rest each night? Thank you for sharing your experience
