S. Leucophylla ID

Recommended Posts

This is a 3 years old plant grown from seed. It seems to be a leucophylla but the red color in the troath is strange. Is it a 100% leucophylla or is it a plant introgressed with rubra?

Looks like a typical leucophylla to me. A healthy leucophylla given plenty of sunshine does have a nice red colour in the throat. The red can be stronger or paler depending on the particular clone of plant.

It looks like a normal leucophylla to me, but who's to say it hasn't got some rubra in there. Since they both have red flowers, it'll also be hard to search for clues when it blooms.

Its possible that there might be something in the mix of genes; time will tell as your plant matures and of course what the flowers are like. Keep us posted!

Thanks!

The plant will probably flower next spring: I'll take more pics of the flower.
