Hostage
Hi all I'm wondering where the best (and cheapest) place to buy Nepenthes? I found Heliamphora.de, and was wondering how good a quality and size are the plants?! would anyone recommend them!? or anywhere else!? Stephen Crane
Hello hos, there are quite a few specialist nurseries on the net and from what I can gather you have to take your postal chances whether it is from the UK or abroad.. shop around and I think more importantly get to know what plants you are after .. manders
There are also some on ebay from time to time and of varying quality. I've bought some from a german guy and they've been very good, and i've bought some others from other parts of europe and they've been a bit questionable, but they are there at least. Guest jacques
Hallo to Manders Is that German guy Wistuba by any chance? He has great stuff. Regards Jacques
Guest Joe Soap
''Yes I agree Wistuba has probably the best range of nepenthes species available but he falls short on the quality of his plants and also on his delivery times. The quality of plants from suppliers such as Borneo Exotics (sold here by UK growers) are far superior - why buy from Europe when you can source better and cheaper plants in the UK along with fast & reliable delivery. I believe it has been said 'Wistuba sells plant material not plants' this may be unfair but many buyers agree. Other big suppliers such as Malesiana Tropicals are also falling miserably short on their quality and you generally have to order half a dozen plants to get one decent one, their customer service is also disgraceful. The other supplier I have heard good things about is Geoff Mansell but I have never had any of his plants..Australia is just too far away.'' Guest jacques
,To JOE SOAP Can you put the site of Borneo Exotics on the forum please. Regards Jacques
Torsten
Hi jacques, Christian Klein from Germany has several nepenthes-species and his material is quite good and healthy. Tim
Joe, do you get a commision from Simon?
manders
Jacques, The guy I bought off from germany was Marko Ettlich, who trades under the name of toysandmore. The two neps I bought were, extremely healthy, adjusted straight away to my conditions and have been good growers. I dont know anything about where he gets the plants from. If you happen to want one of the small range of neps he sells then definately worth considering. Some other neps of ebay have been very small, pale and sickly looking. Frankly, what i suspect is flagrant self advertising, is putting me off ever even considering buying from certain Uk distributors of certain well know nurseries, which is a shame because the plants are probably quite good, but i find the immaturity of the advertising a bit ickky. Hostage
hey dudes!! very helpful thanks!! checked out a few on ebay!! one thing tho!! what is 'ex vitro'!? is this good or bad!?
Geoff
Ex-vitro means it is a tissue cultured plant which has been taken out of culture. In-vitro means it is in tissue culture. Geoff
Paul O'Keeffe
Joe, do you get a commision from Simon? Or is it John?
Simon Lumb
Hi, I have just ploughed my way through this thread and I have to say that it has made me smile. Thanks to all the plugs from Joe/John? and others who I have sold plants to, but I can honestly say that no one is on a commission (I dont sell enough plants to pay commission). Like everyone else on this forum my primary interest is in growing CPs particularly Neps and the fact that I sell some is incidental, I am not a plant nursery nor is it my full time occupation and when it becomes too much hassle then I will stop selling plants. Basically it is still my hobby, albeit one that has expanded much to my wifes dismay, and the prices that I charge barely cover the costs of importation and growing costs. Whilst I agree with some of the comments that have been said above there are some that I dont agree with. At the end of the day individuals can choose from where they wish to purchase plants from, there is enough information out there to help enthusiasts make a choice on quality and price. Cheers Simon
Guest Aidan
Whoever he might be, "Joe Soap" would do well to realise that his incessant plugging is doing you no favours, unless of course that is his intent. Especially as in this example your services had already been mentioned in the second response to the thread.
Guest chanrit
From my experiences, Geoff Mansell of Exotica Plants supplies best quality Nepenthes compare to other wholesalers. His plants are very strong and healthy . His 'small' plants are big and his 'large' plants are huge as specimens size.

Coursair
Can i trust this sourcehttp://www.carnivorousplantnursery.com/sales/salesplants.htm#Anchor-Tropical-11481 If you buy, Buy with caution. This is a US company I bought a small N bicalcarata “Red Blush”. I’m in California. So same country. Mine arrived looking beat up, no pitchers and black at the base of the leaves. I’ve babied it, put it in my indoor Greenhouse and the plant has put out a new leaf and the color is a nice green. No pitchers yet. Other buyers on FB report similiar. Great prices, but plants arrive in rough shape. The seller was quick to answer questions before the sale. Communicated well. Small is very small. Leaves pale green. Now it’s starting to look better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
