Hi Everyone, I haven't been on this forum since we used our CPs as our wedding centrepieces ten years go! Glad to se it is still going strong :) I would be very grateful for everyone's opinions - I have always taken off the dead growth on my Sarras by removing the whole pitcher at the base. They basically peel off from the stem. Is this the best way or do people just trim them right down instead? I have seen professional growers who cut their whole collections right back so there's nothing to see when dormant - do you guys do this and if so when is the best time? We moved our whole collection into a polytunnel last year and they have flourished, so this year's job of cleaning up and splitting is going to take some time! any opinions appreciated, thank you :)
I am now giddy with anticipation, going from other plants my little D. capensis are past something of a danger point having at least two adult leaves each. My question is what is the best size to replant seedlings into their own pots so they can grow into great behemoths of seed setting plants? Also what is the best way to handle Drosera as covered in sticky mucus? Other plants I would hold by the leaf as leaf damage is better than root or crushing a stem.
Hi there, usually I´m repotting my Sarracenia´s every year in spring to let them have good condition to grow. Now I have read, that this is not the best for them, every repotting disturbs their growing. After repotting a small seedling in autumn it stopped growing and producing tubes. I heared, that the right time to repot is only, when the plants are getting too large and needs more space. The problem for me is, that every spring, when I repot them, the peat at the bottom of the pot, that stands in water all the time, is rotted and smells like this. I can not imagine that this is healthy for the plants! And this is after 1 year, how does it look like after 3 or 4 years? I use only rainwater. Please, could you help me with your experiences to help me with this? Thanks a lot, regards, Mike
