Carnivorous Plant Maniacs in Down Under (2001) In the last part of our Australia trilogy in 2001, we find many carnivorous plants with Kirstie Wulf and Greg Bourke near Sydney and in the Blue Mountains. We look for more sundews and bladderworts with Trevor Hannam in Cairns and film Drosera schizandra in the jungle of Mount Bartle Frere. In Port Douglas, we are invited by Helen and Michael Gabour to the great blues events at the Court House Hotel, dive on the Barrier Reef and encounter more carnivores and an impressive stick insect near Cape Tribulation. In the CP-paradise of the Kimberley near Kununurra, we film many plants and two bug-plant-mutualisms including a sundew with unusual characteristics, which we are delighted to find in cultivation on our return to Germany. We show it to an expert and Dr. Jan Schlauer explains the unique characteristics of the plant in an interview at the end of June. In December 2001, he describes the new species in Carnivorous Plant Newsletter as Drosera hartmeyerorum. This film offers an hour of exciting adventures on the successful search for carnivorous plants in Australia. It doesn't get much more adventurous than this!

Finally! One of my D. Platypoda has woken up and made an appearance. This is my first time trying to grow tuberous drosera and it's been an anxious time over the past few months, wondering if I've got the conditions right and am I over/under watering. Then this morning I saw this in one of my pots. I am really happy that they have started to wake up (and relieved I haven't killed them) and I'll post more pictures as they get bigger. Regards, Ian.

Dear all, as my pygmy and tuberous drosera compete for the growing space during winter and both collections tend to become larger, I sought for a new solution to extend the space I have available. I went for a basement room not really used so far and used that occasion to test LED stripes for these plants. The shelves it not the only new addition in my house. I also had to invest into a new computer which is - unfortunately - not completely set up yet. For that reason the pictures are not posted in the usual web space but in the German CP forum. Nevertheless, anyone interested in taking a look please follow this link. I promise that I will soon post the pictures via some web host again, but at the moment there are many thinks to do at the same time and I otherwise would not have shown the pictures at all. All pictures are just "snapshot" quality, but again just to save a lot of time and to make this post possible, I decided to go for this compromise. The LEDs used currently in that setup are red/blue 2:1 and red/blue/white 2:1:1 mixes. There also is a red/blue 3:1 mixture at the lower right hand shelves, but there are currently no tuberous drosera in that shelf (just some D. capensis which did find a spot for the winter there). The white light are fluorescent T5 bulbs. I hope you like the plants! Cheers Dieter
