  1. Hi. This year I have decided to grow some carnivorous plants. I have experience in other types of indoor plant growing and I still have all the gear! I am about to plant some seeds and I still have some rock wool pellets. I intend to plant the seedlings in CVP substrate, likely soil based once they are ready. I wonder if anyone could please point me in the direction of any known useful discussion of this hard to define subject? many thanks in advance and best wishes to all ashesblues
  2. hi everyone from northern italy! i'm cultivating carnivorous plants from about 10 years,i've started with a small dionaea and a sarracenia from a garden centre, and now my collection is expanding. a lot! i've recently built a small greenhouse for the plants,so they can survive my cold winter here.. i'm currently experimenting a peat free mix in a lot of my plants, and i hope to going peat free with all my plants in the future. happy to join the best CP community in the world! cheers- fabio.
  3. Hi guys I have been meaning to look in to Dionaea for a while now :-) the other CP I find interesting but i would like to focus on Dionaea and two things, one learning how to care for the various Dionaea and learn a bit more about the cloning technique and the splitting technique at root level, followed by having a grasp of the different varieties as to look around the north-west of England to see if any unusual VFT are floating about beneath the weeds :-) I am currently due a few in to start me off this week: Goldie (need to confirm name), Akai Ryu and a Fused Tooth Giant :-) of which the Goldie i intend to try leaf clonage :-p and with the Akai Ryu i intend to try root splitage :-) while in the backgroundI do know a little about plants but compared to you guys on here i will likely be a rookie with a few basic plants and plant ideas, however i did want to say hello and wanted to say that anything i do notice that i find unusual over time i will be sharing with you guys on this forum, as well as any nice varieties i come across as well, i will be offering forward some cuttings/seeds, may be both :-p If you do think i may be of any assistance somehow please don't hesitate to get in touch, in the mean time I will be having a ganders around the forums and leaving positive feedback where appropriate :-) hope i can be a valued member in time :-) Paul BattonFive www.batzorprogramming.com
  4. Bout Ye! Norn Ireland calling........ Hope I find you all well! Finally got to a point where I left the city behind and got me some space in t'countryside so can now actually start to enjoy this (a little more).. Saw these carnivorous fellers on tele with Mr Attenborough a good few years back and was hooked. in them days though they were things that were special and odd, could never grow/keep then in the city..... Was at RHS Chelsea 2 years ago and saw (well, was really looking for) the Hants Stand and that was it. Got a card, placed an order and finally took that step from interest to hobby/obsession. Have nosed around the site as a guest for a few weeks and well, help and advice is always required/needed/welcome and there seems to be a fair number of skilled folks around here that don't seem to mind sharing knowledge etc... so where am I at? Living in the Wilds of Norn Iron is not the best start to this little project in many ways. Its now June and this is the first day of 'sun' in 2015! May had snow and a good few freezes so looks like the little fellers woke in March then thought best of it and went back to kip! This is obviously my main factor in what plants I am attempting to cultivate and grow. S. purpurea - hardy little feller can survive in Canada so should not even need coat in Norn Iron. S. leucophylla FL- Nice, tall, green and white S. Flava - Looks and works a delight in the kitchen S. Rosea S.Readii Darlingtonia californica - I think without doubt my favourite and most fascinating D.Muscipula Drosera Filliformis Filliformis Drosera Rotundifolia So where do they live? So far have used some tips and ideas from here and other sites and converted some of a raised bed into a bog. Dug it deep, removed the soil, lined it, filled it and left some of them to their own devices to see how they got on. So far so good. Had a good long winter (9months or so up here) and are now stating to show signs of wakening. The more fragile chaps and chapesses are double potted, in doors with as much sun as Norn Iron can muster. Again all good so far. Nieces and Nephews love em so in a few years there should be a few more members here! This week I finally found the time, will, motivation to go larger. Decided to remodel the garden and create a wild garden/area/space and center/showpiece it with a bog. So hopefully now once the set up has a chance to settle and the little ones can start to feel at home I will be rewarded with a nice display and health willing can then expand. The interim Bog Experimenting and wanting to create more monsters/gems has took me down a miniature, rough n ready approach. Storage boxes, Liner, Mushroom Container, Yoghurt Pots, Quality Street Box, Few stones for the 'Bog' The window ledge at work. test tubes with Halfords Water for the nursery . . . . Let the fun commence Slan
