  2. I am building a solar greenhouse, mainly for sundews, 6x3m, 1m underground, front will be doubleglass, top 16mm lexan.   6. It is in 9x9x10 pot in a mixture of sand and peat. The sand is one which is used in water filters. It is slightly alkaline. Other sundews did not like it. Not sure if the plant is so tollerent or if it actually prefers this conditions. I plan to repot it in the spring to a standard mixture with silica sand. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  8. I have mine for one and half year. I grow it on a South facing window. Days/nights 21-25 now. During summer I kept it outside in a small terrarium Days up to 35, nights 15-20. Previous summer on the window. My ascendens died, villosas are slowly growing but graomogolebsis is one of my niciest sundew. Now even it starts to flower. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

  11. Hi all, this is my tuberous sundews mix one year after sowing (sown on 27.7.). Dieter, is it possible to tell which auriculata is it? I have also one basifolia and couple of stoloniferas I keep them all the time in water, I was afraid to let them dry as it is different species. The flowering auriculata is I think daughter tuber - because it started to sprout only couple of month ago. Basifolia looks from the picture went dormant (I did not notice). Next time I would probably try to separate the seeds or tranplant the plants at a very early stage.
  12. I want to share this photo which shows some of the cape sundew's petals with tentacles. This was one of the last flowers on the flower stalk. The plantlet eventually died but there is one more on the same inflorescence, which looks like a fully developed plantlet - false vivipary. I will share a photo later on, it is raining now. False vivipary is not incommon but tentacles on flower parts are strange or is it also common?

    My tuberous droseras

    Hi all. I "harvested" for the first time my tubers 3 weeks ago on 11/7: D. andersoniana had one daughter tuber placed on the very bootom of 10 cm pot in sphagnum. The larger one on the picture: [/url] D. macrantha Rock Outcrop Form had also a daughter tuber, though I was suprised that one of the tubers had already a big stolon. These tubers I planted this week only, the stolons continued to grow, also on the other tuber one formed. Macrantha is one of the earliest species but it is a bit too early. D. erythorhiza var. imbecilla looked like this: (no tubers, only tuberous roots). I planted them and I can see today couple of plants emerging on the surface. Though now we have a heat wave of tomperatures around 25C;-( D. aberrans I unpotted carefully after imbecillas and just about the surface I found green stolon/leaves. I put the substrate back. Today the plant is still below the surface. D.stolonifera D. gigantea created a replicate tuber even though the plant never made the surface. I had 7 tubers and this is the only survivor On the other hand D. menziessii had no tuber = lost. And I lost many tubers which did not grow and which I haven't found: 4 big tubers of D. platypoda, 1 D. zonaria, and 1 D. peltata As you can see not a good first year ... I hope the next season will be better and may be this will help others not to make same mistakes as I did.

  17. I know they open mostly for a short time during the day when in full sun but perhaps one fly is enough to crosspollinate.

I am wondering whether it makes sense to list locations for drosera seeds since the seeds can be product of mixing with other droseras, e.g. various filiformis or capensis or slackii or admirabilis. When grown together how one can assure that the seeds are same as parent? When I buy f.i. D. filiformis var. filiformis {Virginia} and D. filiformis var. filiformis {red form, Washington Co., FL} what is the chance that they are not crossed? Or do the sellers isolate them that there is no chance of cross-polination?
  19. Hi Tom. Welcome. I lived in Montreal for 5 years. I was unlucky to find utriculara radiata on my numerous trips araund Verandrye, algonquin, forillon, fundy bay, couchibouguac, etc.

    It is a silica sand. It should be natural not ground - not sharp. I bought it in a local aquarium shop. But not in every shop they have it. I have tried also a sand for pool sand filters which is cheap - 15 kg bags for 13 eur here but I think it is not pure silica. It contains probabky some calcium. But then there is a lot of suppliers of this sand so it is worth checking.

    Standard mixture for tuberous droseras: 2-3 parts of aquarium silica sand + 1 part of peat. But I am far from expert on tuberous drosera. The topping is about 0.5 cm of pure sand.
