  1. It is my pleasure to announce official trips through Redfern Natural History to visit many of the plants we love in situ. http://www.redfernnaturalhistory.com...as-expedition/ http://www.redfernnaturalhistory.com...ds-expedition/ http://www.redfernnaturalhistory.com...st-expedition/
  2. Participants will be required to turn off all location data services on their cameras, phones, etc. What's to stop them from turning it back on? Hopefully they will actually care about the safety of these plants, but even if their conscience doesn't stop them then there will be the trip leader keeping a watchful eye on members. Group size will also be limited so that the leader will be able to easily manage and keep an eye on group members. Also, many of these sites are owned by the government or owned by organizations that actively monitor them to keep unwanted visitors from removing any plants. The sites that are privately owned are even better protected thanks to the landowners who often live on the property or nearby and likely have the means to protect their property if need be (yes with things such as guns). Yes, there are flaws in these measures, but I personally believe people have the right to see these incredible plants in the wild. With that said if I believe anyone I am leading around has taken location data or plant material I will not hesitate to confront them and remove them from the rest of the expedition after confiscating the plant material and deleting the location data. My question to those questioning the safety of the plants is what makes these trips any different from any of the trips led to places in Borneo, Papua, Australia, etc. It is expected that you not break any local laws or rules during those trips and they take even fewer precautions to stop people from taking plant material yet no one openly expresses issues with those trips. Just a point to consider.
  3. I edited the original post to hopefully deter all this ridiculousness. Welshy I appreciate your actually helpful advice. You should check out my Heart of Borneo thread if you like Nepenthes :)
  4. I answered his questions and then he tells me to go away and the mods won't do anything about it... I'm not asking for much I'm asking for a simple answer to a simple question and for existing members to be kind to new members which is part of the rules of this forum. If you won't enforce your own rules then you are not doing your job as a moderator. I do not wish to be a part of this forum any longer if this is how you treat your members who are having issues with other members.
  5. Manders, please just leave my thread alone. You're still avoiding the one question this thread is about. And you sure know how to make new members feel welcome here, thanks for all the positive and helpful information. Hopefully the mods will do something a bit more substantial than just editing your posts this time.
  6. Again this trip is in the early planning stages and the ONLY purpose of this thread was to get the ONE question answered that was posed. "What three plants would you prioritize seeing if given the opportunity to come to the US?" which you still have not answered... I have already explained how we plan to stop people from relocating the plants afterwards. Currently no one will be profiting from this trip. Again, this trip is in the early planning stages but will likely cost similar amounts to expeditions already offered by Redfern Natural History for places such as Borneo, hopefully less though. The trip organizers will not provide specialized travel insurance, that is unusual for any trip organizers in the CP world (For Example: Redfern and Chien Lee do not offer travel insurance however they suggest you have it). Participants will sign a release at the beginning of the trip releasing the organizing party from any and all responsibility should a participant become sick or injured, this is typical for all these types of trips. Again, all of this is in the VERY VERY EARLY planning stages and is subject to change.
  7. And finally, the only Amorphophallus I saw blooming while in Borneo. 9. After the Maliau Basin we went to two different preserves for Orangutans and then Proboscis Monkeys but non of those photos really turned out the way I wanted so I'm skipping those for now. After that we flew to Mulu National Park where I attempted to climb the Pinnacles and Gunung Mulu and I was not able to make it to the plants unfortunately due to illness, so I never got to see N. faizaliana, N. muluensis, N. lowii, or N. tentaculata on those mountains. 12. My favorite day of the entire trip was the day we spent hiking from Nepenthes Camp to Ginseng Camp. The hike was not terribly difficult but the first hour of hiking had all of the Nepenthes and by far the most beautiful forest. These are my favorite photos from the trip. I'll start this post out with my favorite photo.
