  2. Thanks for the replies so far, much appreciated. How does the dormancy thing work? Will this occur naturally or are their actions I will need to take? Thsnks Jim
  3. I have all north facing windows apart from the kitchen where he lives, which is east facing. Can't put him outside due to me living in a tower block. The compost is carnivorous which came with Norman. Thanks for the reply :) Jim
  4. Norman has grown in the 6 months I have had him, Since this is my first Trumpet Pitcher, I was wondering f you could answer a few questions please. Do these plants become dormant if so when? Does he look healthy to you? Do you think I need a bigger pot? Thanks for looking folks. Jim

  6. There was a bag of carnivorous plant compost in with the box the label has a box ticked for Trumpet Pitcher, quite a large bag too. Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  7. Thanks for the reply, it was just until I can get out to get some tomorrow. I can also pick up a bigger pot while I am out. I used to get the water from halfords, and it was cheap enough. Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk
  8. A friend sent it to me as my other flytraps died. Sny advice on caring for this specialy after a journey through the royal mail postal system, would. me. most welcomed. The pot looks small in relation to the plant, would it be best to wait untill it hybernates before repotting? I have no distilled water so I boiled the kettle and am just waiting for it to get cold before pouring into the plastic bowl the plant is sitting in. Cheers Sent from my SM-A310F using Tapatalk

  10. I live on the 9th floor of a tower block, poor wee guys must have been worn out, unles they got the lift of course. I fed one to the palnt and it hasent escaped or chewed through, the other went for an abseil. Jim
  11. I found a few earwigs around the plants, I typically have my 2 VFT plants and my pitcher seeds in pots on the windowsil. I was wondering if these can do any damage to the plants, I think I am correct in thinking they can attack plants. It was only 2 actually and I have searched the area but cannot find a gathering of any kind. Thanks folks

    VFT question

Thanks Brendan, I won't do it again, I just got a bit curious. Now that I know, I will let them bask in the sunshine and top up the water. They look a lot better than they were, even the plant I was certain would die has improved and new traps are emerging. Jim

    VFT question

Hello folks. Firstly I would like to thank everyone for the advice and help with my poor flytraps. I think they are finally recovering. I successfully triggered a trap on both plants and they responded well. They both have a healthier look about them. Fingers crossed that they are past the critical stage. Jim

    VFT question

Hello folks, just a quick update. I repotted both plants, one has almost no roots, a few very thin strands almost theadbare so I dont hold much hope for this one. The other had a lot more roots and a lot more trap growth but again it just seems lifeless. The new compost and good water may help but I dont hold much hope. If not I may well be looking to buy a plant or two. Jim

    VFT question

Well maybe two. In case you didn't know, I purchased two venus fly trap plants which were in a sorry state. They are overcrowded and the compost was very dry. I have ordered some larger pots and some fresh compost. For now I have stood the pots in a tray of distilled water about 2 cm deep, I had to top it up as the compost absorbed the water quickly. The questions I have are... Do I need to seperate the plant or can I just transplant the VFT as it is, just removing as much of the old compost as possible? Also how often should I change the water? Apologies if this is in the wrong place and for any dumb questions, but I am a beginner and all advice is appreciated. Thanks. Jim
  20. Thanks Brendan I have some compost on the way already, I do need to hunt down a couple of suitable plant pots. My bro is near halfords so he is going to pick up some distilled water. They did indeed come from Homebase and I will give it my best shot at providing some much needed TLC. Thanks for the offer, I may pick yoir brains from time to time. Jim
  21. Hello folks It's been a while since I last posted but I lurk often so I thought it best to post in this thread. I was out at Homebase today pricing up paint etc and near the checkout were some house plants I spotted these guys on their own looking sorry for themselves so I rescued them. I got them home then realised I have no distilled water or pots or carniverous plant compost, I think they will need repotting ASAP. What do you folks think? Jim
