  1. I am looking for some advice as to when I should be cutting my Sarracenia pitchers back.

I have noticed over the past few days that a lot of my Sarracenia pitchers have started to get white fluffy mould around the pitchers where they have started to burn due to indigestion, and some have started to weep fluid, and also I have white maggots dropping out of some, I have cut all the ones leaking off today just below the brown area, and must have removed about fifty today, is it best to cut them off before they burst.

Is it not a bit early for them to be burning through, mid August, I even had to cut my massive Brooks Hybrid which had a pitcher 113.7cm tall, this is my first full year of growing them so any advice appreciated.

  2. These are the rest of my Disa collection, just need to order some more in the spring, after seeing the display at Tatton RHS.

    D. Kewensis Alice is very similar to D.Kewensis Ann, it does grow taller than Ann but seems to have smaller flowers than Ann.

  3. These are a few of the pictures I took yesterday of Dave Parkinsons Disa Orchid display at RHS Tatton Park Show 2015.

Dave was awarded a Gold Medal for his display, to see this collection was amazing, you could notice the vibrance of the stand from a long way off, and what wonderful people Dave and his wife and daughter are, had a good long chat.

Unable to get a full front view, to many people looking at the stand.

The centre Pink flower below with the Yellow streaks is a new variety, as yet un named and Dave only has the two plants in the image, so beautiful to see.

  4. To save starting another post, I have changed the original title.

Some more images of my Disa Orchids, you will see with the first image how this orchid changes its colour as it matures compared to my first image above.

  5. Looking for advice, over the past week I have had a brown scum develop on two of my trays in the greenhouse, on first spotting it I removed all the plants from tray cleaned the tray and wiped down all pots with rain water before refilling with fresh rain water, after a couple of days it back. When you look at the water it just looks like a brownish film but once you disturb it it goes into bubbles and leaves a brown mark on the pots. (see Images)

Its the same water being used in all my other trays with no problem, I have not added any new plants or compost to the trays so a little confusing. Water TDS reading is 007.

    Anyone else had this issue??

You can see how it has left a layer on the side of the tray

I have just disturbed the water as you can see the water itself is clear

  6. Dan, its a hell of a lot cheaper to get a second water butt, if you can fit one in and have it as an overflow from the other one. Does not take long to fill a butt, just think how much has been wasted with all the rain we have had over the past months. Wilko do a 230litres for £24.

Think of all the extra cash you will have for plants.

  7. I am looking for advice please, I rescued two Pinguicula Tina from my local garden centre the other day, and I have been trying to find out what winter temperatures they will stand, can only find reference to the summer temps if googling.

I have given it a good wash down with rain water to get rid of all the compost etc that was on it and they have picked up.
