  1. Hi all.... Now that i have one of my cephs, and 4 leaf cuttings (just starting to show new foliage) in the greenhouse, i was wondering wether or not they will be ok over summer. Do you think they will get too hot? Do any other growers have theirs in the greenhouse and how much ventilation do you have? Cheers Chris
  2. Bill.... You may have a weak one from the batch that it came from. These things happen. If it is a new plant i would leave it to settle a bit more and maybe see how it does next year. I have two Southwest giants and one of them is growing a lot slower than the other. So it may just be the plant and nothing to do with its species. I find my Red forms to be very strong and fast growing. Chris
  3. Sounds good! Cant wait now! My mum and g/f liked the look of the flowers at the AGm so i brought it for my mum. Maybe my g/f will want one too! Thanks a lot for the info's. Much appreciated. Chris
  4. Oh cool. My P. Grandiflora is only in a small pot right now though, i think its about the size of a 3 inch pot height wise, but a bit wider. Will it have enough room for all those gemmae? Cheers Chris
  5. Hi all. I am wanting to somehow propagate some P. Grandiflora from my main plant and was wondering how it can be done. Is it as easy as P. Eseerinea? How should i do it? Cheers Chris
  6. Well ill just stick up some foil and see what that does. It should make a bit of a difference at least. Its just i dont know if it will reflect it onto the plants if the sun is at an angle to it. Anyways ill give it a go. Cheers Chris
  7. Hi all. As my greenhouse only gets maybe 4-nearly 5 hours direct sun per day and one side doesnt get hit by it i was wondering if putting some grow lights on the back side of the greenhouse with some reflective material across it would be a good way of giving the plants some more light. I dont know how powerful they would need to be though. What do you all think? Thanks Chris
  8. I think the following would be great: G14 G16 Southwest Giant Funnel Trap Cross teeth Chris
  9. Theres the problem then..... VFT really needs a dormancy. I dont really know what you should do with it.... Maybe try and give it an easier time this year.... Keep out of strong sun perhaps? keep humidity up.... make everything easy for it until next winter.... I dont know if that will work. See what others think. Cheers Chris
  10. yes it sounds like your mix needs some sand in it to help the roots develop nicely. That would be the first thing i try. Use 1 inch of water in the growing season. Make sure it has plenty of ventilation also. Do you keep it in a greenhouse? Cheers Chris
  11. Hmmm.... Well it could still be trying to settle in. What mix of soil do you use? I have never tried a red fingers before but all my VFT seem to do fine. My Akai Ryu had some problems producing leaves last year as i used a very bad soil mix and it took a long time for it to settle into it. Chris
  12. Try keeping the water lvl at 1 inch..... Where is the VFT kept? does it get a lot of ventilation etc? and how long has it been in its pot? Chris
  13. Brad how much direct sun do yur VFT's get per day? Chris
  14. They look like clones of the same plant to me! almost got identicle growth patern. Chris
  15. padedeji i dont see how Southwest giant and G16 could be the same plant as one has long petioles that grow upwards and the other is low growing. Chris
  16. Oh yeah and sorry about the Droseraholic wrote bit not being in a different colour. Dont konw how to do that ...... my writing starts on the next line down. Chris
  17. Droseraholic Wrote: The "G16" clone perhaps should be one of the ones deserving of registration (with a suitable name instead of "G16" of course). The G16 should be given its own common name such as Mega Trap, and i aggree that forum members and all growers should be encouraged to label it by this name from now on. But i also think it should keep its ID of G16 in the name also. Like with Dirk venthams G14 it gives the source/location/description, followed by a sort of plant ID. I think it should be labled as follows: Mega Trap G16 It would be nice to see this plant get its own name that everyone is familiar with instead of being labled as whatever the grower wants. If plants are labled as whatever, then growers may end up getting duplicate plants thinking they are different. Cheers Chris
  18. Nice photo's Dave...... I looked at my G14 again today and noticed that allready there is a slight pink colour in the inner trap of a freshly opened trap. Just after one day i noticed the difference. So it probably take a week or two for the new traps to colour up by the looks of it. Cant wait till mine looks like yours Dave. Cheers Chris
  19. Vic i never hand feed my plants. Just let em catch what flies into the greenhouse. I only got my G14 and 16 in february tho so ill wait and see what happens with them. If i want red colouration i should just leave them to catch what they find right? Cheers Chris
  20. Hmmm... Do you think they will colour up in the summer? I really hope i get the colouring that i should for my G14 and 16. Chris
  21. Hi all.... Today i showed a photo of my G14 to Dave1250 and he says that his G14 has a lot more red colouring in it. Mine gets roughly 4 hours of direct sun a day when the sun is out. It will get more in the summer. What could the reasons be for his having more inner trap colour? Cheers Chris
  22. Hmmm...... Despite my ceph being in a sunny window i havnt seen any red growth or colouration on it yet. I have just today moved it into my greenhouse to see if i get any change this year. Is it possible to get albino forms of Cephalotus? Chris
  23. Should be fine to repot them..... They should onyl be slowly growing right now. Early in the growth season is ok. Chris
  24. Aaaah ok that clears things up now. Ill go label them tomorrow Cheers guys Chris
