  1. Yes i did something like that last year with a Heliamphora heterodoxa and this winter was outdoors but in a place where it dont get rain.. and got some new traps so its easy to acclimate

thats a pretty handy thing to read, I should be getting a heterodoxa tomorrow myself (though I don't think I'll keep it outside, englands weather is rather less pleasant that sunny portugal's :D )

  2. Cannot recommend viewing the Hampton Court Palace Flower show image gallery of them making their giant Nep display: http://www.borneoexo...2013/index.html

Really fantastic setup! Definitely can't keep them growing like that...right? Heck, can even most those neps be grown in the same growing conditions? Would be such a fantastic piece to have in a large well-lit area of an office, hotel, giant home for the rich CPers. :D

they have a few separate greenhouses at different altitudes, I think there's some vids on youtube though I can't recall where. but I agree I wouldn't say no to living in a giant tropical complex with attached commercial sized greenhouses!

  3. Hello again all, So for my first new plant of the year I've decided to bag myself my first ever Heliamphora, a heterodoxa (the one listed here in fact)

Anyone have any tips for me? I know heterodoxa is usually considered the easiest species and a good starting point (hence my choice) but any help in not killing it would be appreciated

  4. I don't think i'll be bothering with Roraima anymore either, my last order of 4 or 5 neps all came unlabelled in the same A4 size ziplock bag. Bloody infuriating that i have to take notes and hope i can tell which is which in several years time. And after what others have said, how do i know the plants that came are the ones i ordered ?

Is there no thought put in to packing plants for customers ?

At a push you could ask on here, I daresay maybe a few of our resident nep-heads could give you a half decent guess but I feel your frustration with that pack of jokers :(

  5. At least you got what you bloody ordered from them! I ordered one amongst a few other plants but got only one item of my original order. can't say I was very impressed but hey ho. It sounds like a good hybrid in any case and I'd be really interested to see how it turns out too! good luck with it

  6. I find them great, albert is a gentleman an I had one doa an he replaced no quibble an I've orderd about 150£ worth last summer over a few orders.

Great little company! Hope they get some more varieties over the next growing season

    Agree 100% with you

over xmas they sent me a list of new varieties they're planning on introducing, if you ask they might send you a copy!

  7. I Just got my package this morning. I ordered it at the start of december but what with christmas and all it was delayed in sending till monday. I found Albert to be his usual helpful, polite self throughout, always willing to talk and reply to any queries sent. plants were as always excellent. plus I was lucky enough to recieve a little VFT "Crocodile" as a bonus for the delay.

    10/10 as usual from me!

  8. Hi Manders - Well, at least I don't feel too foolish for not knowing. International restrictions do make things a challenge. I feel as though the availability of all CP's is better in the EU than here in the States. However, that may just be a perception of the grass being greener on the other side of the pond, if you will.

true, while the political gerrymandering is frustrating in the extreme, the EU does at least have the benefit of a free trade agreement allowing plants and other goods to pass freely within europe.

  9. Nice list of plants you got there. I was thinking of getting the Nepenthes maxima wavy leaf myself but how good is the nepenthes you got from them? As I normally get all my plants from http://www.hantsflytrap.com/

they were generally in good health on arrival, though the raff has a very poor root system IMO and I hardly got any of my original order. I wouldn't go rushing to switch from matt soper's excellent service if I were you.

  10. Hi all, I recently but in a little order @ roraima.pl for some nepenthes for my xmas present, however suffice to say I didn't quite get what I ordered. instead of a variety of hybrids with spathulata I have instead ended up with the following:

    N. reinwardtiana

    N. sibuyanensis

    N. rafflesiana

    N. maxima "wavy leaf"

    N. vogelii

    N. ventricosa x dubia

now, I know reinwardtiana and raff. are easy as pie and grow just fine around the house, however what of the others? I'm hoping the hybrid in there inherits ventricosa's easy to grow genes but outside of that I really have no idea what to expect from any of them so any tips RE their care would be massively appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  11. sanguinea is a good bet, that's nice and easy. burkei too- it's similar to ventricosa but much more spectacular IMO and the other reccomendation for you is robcantleyi but that may have to go up there next to hamata- they're a bit on the expensive side but such easy plants its well worth it.

  12. Well Silverman, that is the thing. I don't think it is "religious horse crap", but rather crazy people taking their belief(s) way too far for their own reasons. You put these personalities in any system, and they will find some way of turning it against itself and usually include some form of self promotion.

None of Jesus' sermons included hatred for gays, yet people claim so day in and out. It sickens me to listen to these dults explain they hate for their religion. When specifically asked about gay folk, Jesus say they should not be expected to marry members of the opposite sex and people should not spend much time thinking about something that isn't your business, God takes care of these things and gays are of God too and not for you to judge. Writing laws targeting gays for discrimination is clearly anti-Christian. Allow people to pick on gays in your personal life is clearly anti-Christian. Yet, most of the people "thinking about being gay too much" claim to be Christian. It just doesn't make any sense to me. These folks can't even listen to Jesus, the one they claim as God. I guess they speak for Him, not listen to his advice and even scoff at it.

Busy on the social war path, they neglectfully produce kids with this point of view:

I think you have hit the nail on its head there dave. zealots ruin everything. a bit like the midas touch in reverse- instead of gold everything they touch turns to, well, you get the idea. I just don't get why we can't all get along. what does it matter if you love men, women both or whatever? so long as you're happy together. if everyone thought like that instead of following the bigots and idiots that tell us it's wrong to do anything they don't like then no doubt the world would be a much happier place.

  13. Every windowill in my house has plants on it wating to go out next year and some house plants and I'm finding that I am making space for the cp's already. I have already relegated my Mimosa pudica to a not so good window to get my little Drosera the best light in the house.

I did see a 'free' 20 foot greenhouse on gumtree and if had a van i would have jumped at it. After a tea and a think I knew just how silly 'six' drosera look in there lol.

give it a year and you'll be kicking yourself for not snagging it

  14. Well, probably not too many, but with the internet now a days? Hmm... Maybe that'll be Miley's next chapter?

I was thinking more about how Galileo Galilei was treated for identifying that the Earth moves around and Sun. Instead of continuing his investigation, he had to defend bullshit ideas under threat. Then he was put on trial for not bullshitting hard enough, then found guiltly of something that isn't a crime in the first place. How many morons did it take to move the Church that far off its own mission that they felt required to punish someone for using their intellect? Pretty dumb, and it is the same smug attitude that got Jesus nailed in place.

it's that smug self righteous attitude that has led to religion causing more and bloodier wars then everything else int he history of mankind. I bet we could have been pottering around on mars for decades by now if we hadn't had centuries of religious horse s**t holding back scientific advancement.
