  1. Ah- well done you spotted the obvious mistake I meant June 2005 - it's not that fast :) Here are both whole plants
  2. This is the same plant in June 2006 -it's a fast grower
  3. A few recent pics hamata jacquelinae platychila spec. nov. Sumatra
  4. Just revisited the sticky for Heliamphora taxonomic keys, and glabrous neblinae are keyed out as H.tatei var.neblinae f.parva I take it Stuart would not recognise this as a valid taxon?
  5. By this reckoning the neblinae I got from Andreas isn't the real McCoy Is there a history to where the 'current understanding' came from and why the confusion/disagreement. Is there a counter argument/position? What am I likely to have if my plant originates from Cerro Neblina? Many thanks for the posting in any case.
  6. Putting in backup systems isn't cheap, but it can be done. When it takes 6 years or more for some plants to get to maturity I think it's worth it. I have two independent electrical supplies into the greenhouse, each feeding a seperate set of systems with one of each key service (ventilation, circulation, heating, fogger). One board has just one each of the newest of these and should be the most robust, the other has older equipment and non-essential stuff as well (lights, etc). To cope with total electrical failure I have a non-electric gas heater on pilot, and my latest development is I have just bought a unit which connects to a 12V battery and switches over to it in case of mains failure. This should keep my fans and foggers going for about a day or so. I can discuss details offline if anyone is interested.
  7. A centrifugal hydrofogger was the best thing I ever bought - Brought all my plants on leaps and bounds. IMHO expensive, but well worth it. With two of them I can keep 85% humidity at all times of day throughout the year in a 12ft by 8ft south facing greenhouse with 40% shading on the sloping sides only.
  8. Worked for me a few weeks ago. I registered and entered a plant wuth no problems
  9. I have a mixed collection of orchids and highland Neps. There is a vast range of orchids that will grow under the same good light/ high humidity/ intermediate temperatures regime. Personally, I have Cattleya, Bulbophyllum, Stanhopea, Oncidium, Vanda, Ansellia, Lycaste to name but a few.
  10. That display (or something very like it) has been there a lot longer than this spring - I am sure I remember it being there many years ago. They have (or had) a fine collection of Heliamphoras out back - shame they don't display these.
  11. Yep - been there and registered, but as it doesn't seem terribly well used I hoped a quick mention wouldn't annoy anyone.
  12. I doubt anyone's interested, but just in case: I have a male (x mixta) x maxima flowering now. Let me know if this is useful to you.

    Mature lowii

I was very taken aback with the statement by Rob Cantley that his lowii was one of only two he knew of in cultivation with mature upper pitchers. The species is pretty common, and apparently not the most challenging to grow. Does anyone know why a mature plant would be so very rare.
  14. Anyone growing Nep sp. nov. Sumatra from Andreas Wistuba. If so, under what conditions - typical highland? Thanks,
