  1. You're welcome, Joe. :) I'm actually wondering if something might have gone wrong with your seed storage there as I believe I have had 1 year old seed germinate for me. In fact, the seed I sent you might have been older than 1 year old. Maybe you didn't let it dry out well enough before refrigerating / freezing it? Anyway, it's good to see your plants are doing well. Matt
  2. Hi Christian, I have had good luck growing some communis forms in my typical Drosera conditions (good light, high humidity, sphagnum moss) and so have friends in their varying conditions. So it doesn't seem like there's any special secret. You seem to be doing well with other Drosera - I would grow them similarly but try to avoid high temperatures until you have spare plants to experiment with. I have propagated mine from leaf cuttings in the past. I have not grown communis from the location you listed but I am not so sure that what you have in your photo is communis. On the bright side, if it isn't, it's not spatulata. ;) Thanks, Matt
  3. Hi Joseph, How about posting a photo of the rosette? Matt
  4. Vertigo, How about getting a pic of Andy's mature plant? That would make things easiest. Matt
  5. Here is one of mine. I've got several, all with location data. Note the white secretion on the leaves.
  6. Here are a few of my schizandras. They actually just had a growth spurt - the most recent leaves are coming out significantly bigger.
  7. I'm asking who you got it from and what it was labelled. These things can often help indicate whether or not what you have is the real deal. Kaieteurensis is a relatively rare plant in collections. I've been distributing it for a couple years so it's becoming more common but there are probably still a lot of imposters out there. Was it labelled kaiet. when you got it? If not, why are you thinking that's what it is?
  8. Hi Rico, Here is a pic of my affinis from Namibia. Sorry about the low quality of the photo, but this should give you an idea: http://sundewgrower.com/pics/affinis_blurry_12_15_03a.JPG And here's a clearer pic of the plant I gave a friend: http://sundewgrower.com/pics/affinis.jpg What you have is definitely NOT affinis, though I am not sure what it is. Christian, as always, you have posted some great images!! Matt
  9. D.kaieteurensis usually has a lot more color. Was this plant grown in shade? Where did you aquire it? You can see pics of kaieteurensis on my web page. Matt
  10. Hi Tim, At first the plant I obtained shrunk in size, but it's been a few months now and it appears to have stabilized. I think it will be fine and intend to try to propagate it shortly. If all goes well, I will try to get it into more collections in the near future. Matt
  11. Hey Fernando, I know, it's pretty unreasonable to assume that someone else actually went to Chapada Diamantina and collected a Drosera there, isn't it? :) Let's not outrule this as a possibility.... If you want me to send Vitor a sample of what I have as "sp.Chapada..." for DNA sequencing then I'd be happy to. Also, I might have to do a little research about which "capillarises" and "intermedias" have been collected in Brazil. While I provided you with lots of info on other specimens, I neglected the capillarises and intermedias because I didn't see the need to check them out. Hmmmmmm.... Matt
  12. Heheheheeeee!!! It's a good thing I pointed that out before it was too late, init? ;) There's someone else I know though who definitely has a much more serious problem / identity crisis but I won't go there. All I can say is that, as far as Jan goes, there is only ONE Jan Schlauer. And all the others are just wannabes. As Jan the Man would put it, "Bogus is bogus is bogus"!! :) Accept no imitations! Seriously, Jan's definitely cool in my book. He may be a ball buster but he's always been extremely helpful to me. We might not see things from the same perspective but he's alright! Matt
  13. Another problem with this CAxHI anglica is that some people have been distributing it as "tropical" anglica or simply anglica HI, causing further confusion. I've got the true anglica from HI - this form has not gone dormant for me yet and I don't anticipate that it will. Matt
  14. Hey Vic, How rare is anglica in the wild over there? Thanks, Matt
  15. Hi Pyro, Thanks for the offer / phone conversation yesterday! I was growing them under fluorescent lights, you're correct. In all honesty, I'm not good with plants which require 1/2 a year of dormancy. I just don't have the patience for them. While they're dead above the surface I keep thinking what a waste of space it is so I'm usually not patient enough for them to come up again. :) I think that the temperatures are also important with cistiflora though and don't know if my living room temps would be cold enough for them.
  16. Hi Tim, No Damp Off is available in large bags from Charlie's greenhouses. Matt
  17. If that's the case, as it could be, I wonder what it really is. Would you want a plant for DNA sequencing to compare with long-leafed capillaris? Actually, if it wasn't such a cool plant, I would have flushed it down the toilet. I think it's worthy of cultivation and for now I have to call it SOMETHING. So in order to reduce MORE confusion, I'd prefer to keep the label as it is, even if it's inaccurate as people would realize this is the same thing they have labelled this... As you know, names like "sp.Chapada" and "sp.Emas" are not scientifically accepted anyway... If you have a better suggestion as to what to call it, let me know, but I do really think it would cause more confusion than good. Also, I know you've been all over Chapada Diamantina, but could you have possibly overlooked this plant?? But my point is that the long arm form of capillaris never germinates for me yet this "sp. Chapada" did. There could have been outside factors causing this but all seed was fresh and I generally get excellent germination in general, leading me to believe that this "sp.C" and the long arm capillaris are different. Any other comparison is difficult for me right now as I have not grown anything received as the classic long arm form of capillaris yet. Actually, now that I think about it, I am going to ask a buddy for a leaf or 2 so I can eventually compare them sie by side. OK, next time I take pics I will email you one.
  18. Ugh, you're going to make me finally plant those packets of seed from hybrids I made, aren't you?! ;) JAN, what have you done with Fernando?!?! ;) Matt
  19. you just reminded me its time to plant the seed of the winter growers... If only I could find the time. Hmmm, maybe I should stop posting messages and get down and dirty with the milled sphagnum,,,,, Sorry but I can't offer you good advice on cistiflora as I haven't got much experience with it. Oh, except for this... they may not grow well for you under lights...
  20. I could be wrong but to me that looks like what I remember temperate D. anglica to look like...
  21. Sundewmatt likes to remain "mysterious". Sundewmatt prefers not to post his photo to the web. But Sundewmatt thanks you for your curiousity. :)
  22. All I've got are these 2 crude images... This is me when I am happy: :) This is me when I am angry: >:[
  23. Tim, Pete and Troy, Very funny pics... Matt
  24. Anyone else growing this one?
