Hi and welcome to the forum.
-
Thanks for the info Richard. I saw you posted a photo of a plant a while back. I've never had any luck with seed germination before so I bought this from danl82. If I get any seed this year I'll try again. BTW do they self pollinate?
-
Saw this on sale in ASDA and couldn't resist rescuing it. After all a member of the general public is likely to kill it, especially with the instructions on the packaging.
Removed from packaging and given a good flush through with RO water and put in semi-shade until it's acclimatised. Should make a good plant by next year.

Here's my tub of darlingtonia. Not quite as tall as yours, but doing well nevertheless.

More flowers coming ....

Well, he plant looks too green to me - has it been kept in shaded conditions? Ornata should have yellowish-green or vivid yellow pitchers in direct sunlight and be lined with variable, dark red or purple reticulate veins. From the evidence shown here I would say it seems to be a S. flava var flava. However, the lid and spout on the lip of your plant look like examples of rubricorpora from Wewahitchka, FL. I would try giving it full sunlight and seeing if it darkens. I've got plants in the sun all day which have still not developed the red colouration.

Looking good Dunc! And no aphid damage that I can see - how do you do that for outside plants? Some dividing to do next year, maybe

Had a little bit of rain the other day, but I've mostly been using RO for a while now. Have to run it for 2 days to fill the butts.

Thanks for the photos David - I know what a pain it is posting images on here!
I guess most people have moved to social media now which I think is a great pity.

Shame there's nothing on the CPS website on this. An obituary maybe?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I met him once back in the early '80s when we visited his nursery. It was the TV program he did on carnivorous plants that got me into the hobby and after watching that I bought his 1st book. There was no internet in those days so all communication had to be done by letter, and I do remember how helpful he was and still have a note he wrote me on plant availability.

I use Provado Ultimate Bug Killer. If the mould is sooty mould forming on the plant nectar then you can just leave it as it causes no harm. I would certainly spray the vft as well but don't know about the nepenthes. BTW the usual advice is to prepare the bug killer at half normal strength.

Flowering often delays pitcher production
Yes, for instance WWK is terrible for it. Again, this year a flower but no pitchers - I think the first is just starting to appear now.

Thanks everyone who made it. We think somewhere between 50 and 60 people turned up. In case anyone was wanting to come, I am having another open day this weekend starting from 10am.
Just watch out for the air show at Cosford
Great day Mike, got some nice plants to add to the collection. Please thank Helen for the food and hospitality.

Hi,
As happened last year Swarkestone Nursery have another event this weekend. They've chosen a bad day as it's Mike's open day on Saturday but I hope to go on Sunday.
See you there!

Yes, well done to everyone. They even had a very short piece on TV showing someone's stand. Was that yours Nigel?

Nice plants Plantsman89. We all probably have what we know as atropurpureas from Florida. You may not have been on the forum when we had a detailed discussion on the subject led by Kiwi Earl (see here). Earl believes that only the plants from the Carolinas should be called atropurpurea and those from FL are really rubricorpora. I don't know if any final conclusions were reached or consensus agreed on what we should call Florida the S. flava var. atropurpurea?

Looks like I'm getting flowers. Any advice on what to do after flowering? I've heard Drosophyllum can die afterwards.

No F5 on my iPad Martin
F5 just does a refresh telling your browser to look at the cache before asking the server for content. So, if you have a refresh button that will hopefully do the same thing.Alternatively Ctrl + F5 forces a load from the server.
ASDA plant

Yes, that was it. They are selling vfts and even Drosera capensis at the same price. Not worth buying the capensis as like most people it's a weed in my collection. I wouldn't normally buy CPs from ASDA, but the S. purpurea looked quite good and would probably only get killed by anyone else so I rescued it. However, the care instructions aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
