  1. Hi, Thank you very much for explaining to me. Really Appreciate it :)
  2. Ok Thanks guys, as long as i know it's not much to worry about should be fine. Thanks :)
  3. Hi, Does anyone know what these red dots/lines are on my pitcher plants below the rotting pitchers. It shouldn't relate to anything outdoors as i have only just planted outside as before it was on an east facing window (inside) hence the rotting traps which is down to too much sun??? But if you look closely you will see the red dots/rotting at the top of the pitcher plants what is it does anyone know? And anything i can do about it? Thanks
  4. Hi, Does anyone know what this is on my pitcher plant? It shouldn't have anything to do with outdoors as i have only just planted outside as it had been inside my living room for a while. Notice the pitchers dying off at the top, my thought was that there was too much sun on it in the house (east window). It is now south facing outside but still gets plenty of sun. It is very tall pitcher and all my other plants are flourishing so does anyone know what this is? and what i could do about it? Many thanks Owen
  5. UPDATE: 1 week on and out of the four plants, i have noticed new growth on both the end pitchers and while some of the leaves of the sundew are dying off i notice a new rosette/bud growing which means new growth. The only one not doing too good is the venus fly trap, i cut the flower off to avoid drainage of resources but it seems a very shrivelled plant, but to be honest it was a weak specimen anyway.
  6. Cheers for the advice, i can't remember if the trough has holes in it already, but i will definitely do that with the polythene bag, a good idea. Never thought of it!! Thanks Owen
  7. I don't know, to be honest i know nothing about it but ordered it as thought it may help them flourish. This is it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00MIV100S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1430064744&sr=8-1&keywords=carnivorous+plant+fertilizer Seems to have good reviews, not sure what others think?
  8. This is my FIRST proper attempt at growing carnivorous plants outdoors. I have spent years with them on the windowsills and i finally decided it would be nice to try and create one outdoors which i have put off ever since my expensive cobra lily died the second it went outside (I now believe this was because he was in the full sun!) The Sarracenia traps were already brown in their pots and due to the size they grew, decided these must be first to go outside, along the troth i have also added in another type of Sarracenia and also a Venus Fly Trap and a Sundew which wasn't 'thriving' indoors. My only problem is i don't have a tray beneath this trough so i am relying on memory to keep the soil very moist each day, luckily the location of this there is plenty of sun, and when it does rain it gets nice coverage. Before planting i mixed some of the 'E-coco Carnivorous Plant Fertilizer' which is made from worms or something and mixed with water. Day 1
  9. Yeah see i was wondering that thanks for clearing it up for me. It looks weird how it is now haha
  10. Alright ok thanks for this. I will find something opaque to put it in. Thanks i wouldn't of known what to do otherwise lol.
  11. Hi i am quite new to bladderworts i tried to create a viewing pot out of an old big plastic drinking bottle. Iv'e checked i got the right compost for it and i have my only worry is that it was such a tight squeeze into the plastic bottle that i couldn't put any soil around the roots. Will the roots just continue to go downwards and grow on or will they all die off as theres no soil surrounding them either side. Thank you. It is a Bladderwort Longifolia.
  12. Hello i bought the All Red form Venus Fly Trap about a month ago (VFT Red form Iv'e put it into a trough or terror, and iv'e now noticed that around the edges it's slowly starting to go green, and any new traps that are forming are almost all or if not nearly all green. Just wondering how come this plant went from 100% red to now about 50-60% red. Thanks.
  13. Yes, i also noticed this it's quite funny as it's a plant you don't see much of for sale making you think it's perhaps rare. Anyway according to my note diary. I planted and (set fire) to the seeds on 22nd June 2011. To my surprise by the 7th July 2011 mine has grown a to about 1mm, and looking today the 10th they seem to have grown to nearly 2mm. Out of 10 seeds, 3 have germinated within 3 weeks. I, like you is quite shocked to see this. While i set fire to the seeds i didn't put anything around the pot (like a bag) as i coincedently ran out, and it seems as well as the drosera and dionaea (which did have bags) the byblis have also grown quite quick. Congratulations it's lovely when you see little seedlings isn't it. =]
  14. Thanks for telling me all though a bit late now i should of posted before i done it. Well the thing is i have no money at the moment and all i had was Peat and Perlite (which iv'e now used on on the trough of terror) But i didn't have any pitcher plants (since mine are in quarantine because of whitefly (which has now been treated but damaged plant) So i didn't really know what to put in them Thanks for telling me
  15. Out of all the plants i bought from The Shop of little Horrors. I bought the trough of terror tub for only £2.50 (The small one) Trough of Terror I planted my Monkey Cups, Red Venus Fly trap and Butterwort into the trough of terror. I used peat and perlite mix. I am now going to be anxious for the next few weeks seeing how they will get on. They cost me £20 for them three plus the tub!!
  16. Ever since i obtained my seeds iv'e wanted to do a diary where i can record the process i thought it wouldn't be a bad idea doing it here as people can come and see, compare results, give me advice or even give them advice. First off here is my collection of Carnivorous plants Cobra Lily, Monkey Cups, Venus Fly Trap x3, Albany pitcher, butterwort and sundew Seed Diary 21st June 2011 - Sown all my seeds Byblis Filifolia Sarracenia leucophylla Dionaea Miscuipula mixed Cephalotus follicularis Doresera Mixed
  17. Thanks so much for all your help iv'e now made the viewing pot!!!!!!!!!!!!! =] Three more questions lol (You got to admire my enthusiasm) 1. Which species can go in the viewing pot can it be any of these three: little shop of horrors The only reason i ask is i trust this site and is one of the only sites i use because the plants come potted so i know there done right without me having to do them. 2. How much water will you need to put in the pot is it full to the rim for pond ones and just a simple watering for terrestrials?? i don't know. AND 3. With the chosen bladderwort what mixture should i use iv'e only got Sand, Perlite, Peat and Compost here.
  18. Thank you very much everyone iv'e now got a good idea of what to use. Two questions though which species like to be waterlogged and how come the viewing pots only work for them species. Also how come you have to have a cover around the pot when your not viewing them?? Thanks again everyone =]
  19. With all my carnivorous plants i like to see the part of them which catches the prey. I understand that to see this with Bladderworts you need a microscope but i would still like to see the roots and the pods at the bottom. Does anyone know how to make a pot which you can view the roots at the bottom. I found this My linkbut it's too difficult for me to make can i just use anything see through orr has there got to be special requirements I appreciate any help =]
  20. Heya i love your Aquarium! =]
  21. Sorry if i sound thick it's just iv'e never owned one and don't know much about them. I was wondering if there all underwater or need to be next to water etc. because i don't have a pond or anything and i would love to have one to add to my collection. Are there any land ones or anything? Thanks =]
  22. Yay it worked thanks Phil Green =]
