So I got home after a month of absence and unfortunatelly I missed drosera whittakerii ssp. aberrans flowering. My mum took a pic with cell phone and it is very blurry
She said the flower was very fragrant and it only opened for one day and died.
Hopefully next season I get to see it too.
When I returned drosera was done blooming and dying back getting ready for the dry season:
D. whittakerii ssp. whittakerii is 2 months behind aberrans so maybe it will flower later as well:
My D. burmanii is done flowering as well and dying. This one put up 25 flowers and second stalk...
D. modesta grew 15cm in 5 weeks and is one of my favourite
D. peltata var. auriculata flowering soon
D. nidiformis flower
D. prolifera
and some drosera menziesii ssp. menziesii
Hope you like them:-)

Hi Calek!
I accidentally posted this thread twice...so look up the other one that has developed. You will find answers there:-)

looks like my D.nidiformis to me ....

Hi Johny!
I couldnt find any pics but I came across this video on youtube where you can see D. schizandra in natural habitat:

I must say I am not that much of a fan of sarracenia genus but I have to confess that these pictures are superb and the plants are incredible! Thank you for sharing!
-
Very nice!
First time i see d. paradoxa growing with live sphagnum. Or does it grow ON live sphagnum in your case>? Looks cool.

Hi! Along with other species I have these 2 south american drosera in my collection. Since the variability of the species is great I would like to know whether or not it is possible to determine where these plants come from just by looking at them. My drosera roraimae just started growing. I think it might be "Gran Sabana, Venezuela" (does not form rosette and the leaves grow alternately on the vertical stem) but i can be wrong. I would like to hear a more educated guess if possible:
Second species is d. ascendens and since there is over 12 localization types available on the market i think it is hard to say where this one comes from. To me is looks like "Serra do Quiriri, Garuva, Santa Catarina, Brasil"......but again i might be mistaken. Unfortunately I do not have any pics of flowers nor seeds:-(
Thanx for help!

wow your drosera really looks superhappy! :-)

So after some months of waiting I have finally some tubers growing. After d. aberrans which will flower soon D. menziesii ssp. menziesii will form some leaves and also D. whittakerii ssp. whittakerii and D. modesta. Besides peltata and auriculata these are my first tuberous drosera growing so I am very excited:-) Thanx Sean;-)
D. menziesii ssp. menziesii
D. whittakerii ssp. whittakerii
...and D. modesta (first leaves):

Dieter that might very well be the best looking drosera flower I have ever seen and the photo quality is great as well! Congrats! :-)

This is composition of tissue culture agar medium I will attempt to propagate droseras in:
MACRO-elements: CaCl2(100mg), KH2PO4(60mg), KNO3(630mg), MgSO4(60mg), NH4NO3(550mg)
MICRO-elements: CoCl2.2H2O (0,01mg), FeSO4.7H2O (10,0mg), CuSO4.5H2O (0,01mg), H3BO3 (3,0mg), KI (0,40mg), MnCl2 (10,0mg),Na2MoO4.2H2O (0,1mg), ZnSO4.7H2O (4,5mg)
VITAMINS:thiamin hydrochloride,B1 (0,1mg), riboflavin,B2 (0,09mg),nikotinamide=niacin,B3 (0,95mg), pyridoxine,B6 (0,13mg), biotin,B7 (8mikrog),kobalamin,B12 (0,05mikrog),folic acid,Bk (0,01mg), panthotenic acid,coA (0,352mg), ascorbic acid,C (3,17mg)
FYTOHORMONES: NAA (0,05mg), IBA (0,09mg), IAA (0,1mg)
MEDIUM AND NUTRITION: agar (7,0g), maltodextrose (7,0g), pentaerytritol (3,0g), D-mannitol (10,0g), sucrose (3,0g)
DISINFECTION growing vessels, glove box and utencils: 1.Ca(ClO)2 2. isopropanole 3. 20minutes UV radiation 4. autoclave (20 mins at 120C) 4. (twizzlers-flame and alcohol)
DISINFECTION of explantates: 1. isopropanole (70%, 2 mins) 2. I2/KI/H2O (20mins) 3.hydrogen peroxide (5%, 5 mins + atomized oxygen) 4.triple rinse in disinfected RO water.
Some chemicals:
TC :
I have never done this before and I am not a biochemist so I have some questions for someone who is more experienced than me:
1. how long can store ready solution of agar medium of above listed composition in a fridge in a brown-glass bottle?
2. do the vessels with tissues need to be air-proofly confined in order to prevent infection of the inside by bacteria/fungi cultures?
3. If contaminated, how long after laboration will fungus/bacteria appear?
4. What is usual average time for firts observation of a new growth?
5. Is this composition OK for CPs? ( I improvised heavily...)
THANX:-)

99.9% it is a very young D. capensis. I get these in my pots as hijackers all the time. They grow pretty quickly after repotting. You can get an adult plant after a month or so.
-
Thanks for your comments. I was surprised how red she turned although she only receives artificial light. Is getting lobster-red:-) Soon I will try to propagate this lovely species via TC. Will report later:-)
-
Here is what she looks like now when I give her 15C nights and removed the foil:
I am happy she didnt die:-)
-
Now it got a bit warmer and it seems aberrans doesnt mind temperatures around 25C and 8 hours of full sun:
I know aberrans first develops leafs before flowering but I guess it is not a rule that she flowers every season?
-
Wow now that is what i call a wonderful drosera collection!!! GREAT! Thanx for posting the pictures!!! :-)
-
Lovely plants! I like the D. neocaledonica particularly! :-)
-
I have a question about D. aberrans.....see in the picture above it is two weeks ago. Now we has some luxurious spring weather (nothing but sun and 15-20C day and 5-10C night) and this drosera now looks like this:
Is it a slow-grower or is something wrong? (I fear that she will not have enough time to grow before we get hotter weather in jun)
-
Now you can compare with the droseras that were under artificial light all winter:
D. burmanii
D.paradoxa
D. sessifolia seedling
D.affinis
D. dielsiana
D.graomogolensis (now growing well but I have a problem- it is too successful hunter so all the leaves are used-up and it dont look good:-(
and this one I propagated from mother plant a month ago and it started growimg-Heli M.
-
WOW Vince! You have astonishingly good looking plants! Just wonderful! Do you grow them in the sun or under artificial lights? I was also wondering about the condition in which you grow D. rubrifolia (mine died:-( ) yours look so dewy and healthy! (Of course the other plants as well).
GREAT JOB!:-)
-
So the first spring sun hit the window so I took some pictures of happy plants basking:-)
Drosera anglica (non-tropical form) really took off when it got warmer. 2 weeks ago it was a hibernaculum
Drosera burmanii slackii and burkeana are slowly recovering after repotting:
Last fall's gemmae of drosera paleacea ssp. paleacea:
Drosera nidiformis doesnt suffer with arachnophobia;-)
-
Thanx Sean!
That is exactly what I hoped for being replied:-)
