Hi
is there any other types of moss suitable for bog gardens other than sphagnum which is available to purchase. looking for a lower maintenance top dresssing which wont consume smaller plants.
thanks Mat
ive used a mix of 2 parts peat to one part perlite, with a top dressing of sphagnum moss. the moss can consume smaller plants like pings and VFTs if you dont control it, but for sarras a trim once a year is normally enough.
ive heard they do ok in the south where its less harsh in winter, in fact if i remember right they are actually growing wild in the new forest!!!!!!! you need to plant them on a bit of a raised mound to stop them being too wet in a mini bog.
I want to put some VFT in my mini bogs outside all year, are their any forms that tend to be more hardy than others?? any advice appreciated.
thanks Mat
thanks for the link Heather
no havent seen the flower yet Jim, it was an assumption due to the labeling. their was certainly a lot of garden center stress, most plants were dry. hopefully it will pull through.
As said here are some new pics of my bog barrel now that stuff is growing in here. Cat turd replica has been replaced with another piece of wood that looks less cat turdish
Hi having read loads of threads on this forum i found out that i am now the proud owner of one of the fake GC wessers. what kind of conditions does this plant need for growing?? any advice appreciated as ive not had much experience of pings.
thanks Mat
if you need peat for planting your seeds you should be able to get some at homebase (i think theres one in leamington if i remember right?), allthough pots rammed with VFT do look great
