  1. Nice pictures and information! If they manage to flower, are you planning to do some (pygmy) crosses?
  2. That looks terrible, haven't seen any pictures of such an advanced stage before
  3. Can't really say thats true, they can handle frost as long as they don't dry out and it doesn't get extremely cold. Don't want to be a pain the a** but, for a faq i would only add stuff that you know the source of and that has been confirmed. "i heard" isn't really a good source
  4. It's just one deformed trap, new leaves aren't going to be so unusual at all. Take it easy
  5. I agree with Jimfoxy, it does have it's benefits However when you use too few Perlite/sand in proportion to peat it really doesn't have that much of an effect at all. That being said, it is possible to grow in just peat
  6. What he said is exactly survival of the fittest, a peacocks tail is a survival advantage. Higher chance of getting a female to mate with, higher chance to pass your genes, survival of the fittest You shouldn't look at survival of the fittest and apply it to one individual, should apply it to the genes that make those peacock tails pretty Also there is a direct link to how the tail looks like when the animal is healthy and when its not I'd say sexual selection is part of survival of the fittest and not a seperate mechanism
  7. Celox

    A few things.

It is too late to cut it off now anyway, try to get seed and see what happens
  8. Heather they keep the general charasteristics of when they were little, things like trap size changes ofcourse, I'm pretty sure the colouration is one of the things that generally stays the same
  9. I live in belgium and have all my sars outside year round, but this year the fluctations in the weather are really giving all of them a hard time. For example first we have a beautifull sunny warm spring day and than the same night it gets below freezing and the next day its 7° (celcius) max I hope it gets better soon back on topic your vft's look very healthy already
  10. A nice example of that each plant is unique is vraev's picture, notice how some grow larger than others
  11. Amaury, your plants truely look awesome, couldn't help noticing the huge vft's next to the, already amazing, seedlings. I'm wondering though, since I couldn't find any helpful information about this, if you could explain (or someone else who knows) wat exactly is In vivo (I googled it up fyi and the only thing i found was information about diseases and references to in vitro) I already know it means "Inside a living organism", but that doesn't clear anything up now does it? regards
  12. if it works don't fix it :) Sounds like your plants are happy and have adjusted to your watering conditions. I don't think there is anything to worry about
  13. none so far, Average.. well hard to say we have gotten winters before with no snow or very minimal amounts that would melt away instantley. This year however temperatures are lower than any other year and I'm secretly hoping for some snow, our pond has already frozen. It has a thick layer of 9cm ice, already walked all the way across over it today
  14. not overkill at all, 13w is not going to cut it long term unless you place it close to your plants. but that isn't all that great either

    Moldie Stuf

If it is mold it might be because of poor ventilation Could you post a picture perhaps?
  16. sorry for being rude and double posting. But I just want to put some slight pressure on this! (I know i should be happy that you are even willing to help me, but I am going to buy the stuff either tommorrow or saturday) Thanks for reading this and hopefully replying to my previous question! C
  17. Just for the record here: I calculated that I would need 7 (yes seven, for christ sake I must be wrong) T5 flourescent tubes of 21 wats they were about 32" long i guess and 1 true light bulb I calculated that with some kind of formula and my goal was to get 60K lux to equal a bright day. however I do not know if this is way too much. WHat kind of tubes would you guys recommend (a link would be appreciated so i can search for the equal thing in my country) and ofcourse how many?
  18. then I'll be mainly keeping dionaea and drosera, even tho they might not be ideal, they'd do far better than outside. And the majority will be dionaea
  19. Good afternoon lads, I know you are all getting tired of lightning questins, so to make this slightly less boring for you I added additional questions, no need to say thank you! :) Ok lets get started shall we? I want to make my own terrarium, I decided on a 100 * 40 * 40 (l*B*H in cm), Thats about 42 gallons if i'm not mistaken, The plants will be (from the soil to the lights) 10 to 12 inches away from the lights. I will mainly be growing vft's, Drosera's and the occasional nepenthes (nothing special just the ones I save from the shop and need to get ready for the life outside) Now the top of my terrarium will be 100 *40 cm So i could easily fit enough lights on there! My first question is regarding how much light, what kind, what size, what combinations, etc I should use to get healthy plants, with a good red colouration (links are appretiated, also keep in mind that these items should be cost-effective and they should normally be available in the shops) My second question is, where should I use mylar? (Just on the sides, or on the sides and behind the lights? keep in mind that this has to be in proportion with question one) Third question How thick should the plexiglass be? I figured 6 millimeter or 1/4" would do just fine Fourth and final question, for ventilation I thought 2 80mm pc fans would do fine, one intake and one outtake. Ofcourse they would be running on 4 volts instead of 12 any other suggestions regarding ventilation would be welcome! (do I actually need 2 80 mm fans? do I actually need fans?) Last, I'd like to say thanks for reading this, and if you replied, thanks again it is really appreciated. I'm going to get everything I need on Saturday! Thanks again guys C Just to make sure= yes I did search around the forum, infact i went back all pages on all kinds of forums reading everything regarding terrariums and lightning, however I couldn't find an answer that i could use Ofcourse I used the lightning calculators, used the formulas, etc But my results were not accurate keep in mind that i'm an absolute beginner to terrariums
  20. You can try to isolate it and try letting it recover,... what have you got to loose?
  21. Where's the half naked girl with the board... where is it!?
  22. Celox

    vft no name

you don't even know if this plant is even special, and if it is it might not even have the same characteristics in other conditions. Besides it looks like a plain old red vft to me
  23. Celox

    a new cultivar.

    I shall call this: pointless
