  1. This youngster from last year is going to flower fort the first time. The red sphere on the right side is head of pin.
  2. Thank you for your compliment! I tried a lot to show CPs from different point of view. As many as possible. And short, only necessary text.
  3. False alarm! As I found many white filaments elswhere, not only at sundews, I researched my cat's bed and checked undercoat. Yes, that is it! Undercoat and some stronger hairs. No pesticide needed. I still don't know what is on fig 3 and 4, but probably is not dangereus.
  4. Here are sketches of what I can see with microscope (400 x). Fig. 1 and 2 are white filamentous »things«. They looks more like Cianophyta, but there is no chlorophyll inside. There is no visual cross cell wall anywhere and no dilatation or barrier of inside matter, also can't see nucleus or any other organelle, nor necridiums nor heterocysts. The »thing« 1 is thinner than the »thing« 2. On fig. 3 are empty hollow sacs with air inside. These are ingredients of cobwebs looking »thing« on 3rd photo. Inside this sacs are probably fungi, looking like multicellular Sacharomyces (fig.4)
  5. This year seems to be very 'nice' for filamentary fungus. Can anybody identify it and suggest fungicide?
  6. Drosophyllum lusitanicum is good catcher of mosquitos. It seems they catch only males. They have large antenaes, females don't have only small ones.
  7. I wander if drosera drug was used anywhere. It probably can't kill virus but can help to treat cough and other respiratory problems. The drug is not common in my country.
  8. Less than 100 books left. Two extraordinary population of butterworts are officially introduced. One is already known to members of this forum, other one is printed for the first time.
  9. I am glad I can introduce the first book in Slovenia about carnivorous plants Carnivorous Plants, Beauties and Beasts. It has 176 pages, 188 photos, it costs 21€ + 5 € post costs. Sorry, it is written only in our language but photos are universal. You can order it at https://zalozbanarava.si/knjiga/mesojede-rastline-lepotice-in-zveri/ Jure
  10. Hi Rogier! I was looking for that plant several years one year. As it is not clear does it grow in Slovenia or not I wanted to check some morphological signs from pure species from anywhere from Europe. Finally, I got plants from It, De, Cz, Cro. They are different from any plant from Slo I have seen so far. I would be glad to get a piece of your plant too! All I need is some 10 cm of alive plant (several leaves and bladders). Regards,
  11. It is not April the first, this is Drosera filiformis today in full growth. The largest leaf is 2 cm high. We had frost several times in May and hail in July. That is the result.
  12. Sarracenias will soon be in full shape. The problem is I dont know which is which as they are looking all the same at this moment. That was a wiew from my window. Some helis are much demaged and several smaller plants. These are tomatos and lettuce And a shipwrecker. He survived!
  13. We have had hail at Thursday, that is the result.
  14. We all know they are deadly for insects that fall inside the pitcher. But I wander what is the situation in natural habitats. Does any animal (vertebrate) eat whole plants or part of plant, maybe flowers or fruits? Is there any known poisoning of human? Are pitcherplants useful for any medicine?
  15. I can show next signs for exterminating P. alpina and P. vulgaris if they are not in flowering time: http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjslat/mesojedke/mesojedk.htm (it is not in English but you will understand the pictures anyway ;). You can see the roots of P. alpina (the left one), which are strong, yellow, with one redish main root. They are present at wintertime also. The plant on the right is P. vulgaris, the roots are pale white tufted roots, absent in winter. When the plants stop flowering, you still can recognize P. alpina, its flower stalk is rough and in P. vulgaris is rounded. It seems they don't care much about the soil type. They grow on sphagnum or silica sand or limestone equally. I prefer one exposition on travertine stone, which is always in water and is covered with mosses. This seems to be just right one as evaporation of water lower temperature in summertime. They get sunshine only to 10 o'clock in the morning, later they are in shadow. The main trouble are blackbirds (Tordus merula), they use the plants for nests or maybe they eat winter hibernacula.
  16. Nice to see the plant is in good hands Unofficially: I call it "Deep Purple" even it is not a clone but unique isolated population.
  17. I have next droseras in wintertime at 5 °C - 10 °C: D. slackii, D. graomogolensis and D. regia, they completely lose their upper parts. They are all growing from roots now but I'm always afraid they will not survive winter. I do lose some of them from time to time . Would it be better to grow those species on warmer place to keep leaves green all winter?
  18. Last year I bought a solar power water pump for ~ 10 € from GB. (http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R3.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.Xsolar+water&_nkw=solar+water+pump&_sacat=0). The pump didn't work, but the panel produces enough power for 4 fans (from computer) at sunny days, maybe even more. I could get the panel even cheaper at alibaba.com (1,09 €) but didn't risk. It works without any trouble for one year now, every day.
  19. Thank you for your votes and many congrats to Vince! Great work indeed!

    Utricularia ID

I do not grow the plant. Photos were done by my friend in some hotel park in Sri Lanka.

Could that be U. gibba? I have never seen such large vesicles.

    Utricularia ID

    It is from Sri Lanka.
  23. Anybody knows this one? I got photos from a friend and can't tell anything more about the plants:

    Smallest longifolia?

Not so high (750 m) as chill. 1/3 of the year is cold, the rest is winter.
