  1. Great pics Marcus and good to see the little giant is doing well for you
  2. Very happy for you Nadja, hope they enjoy the Swazi climate for a long time to come
  3. It's a Fensetria allright, I think F. rhophalophylla.
  4. Wouter, Nicolet, John and I will be there on the 4 th of July, it's the closing event of a short UK CP holiday
  5. Triple GOLD Rob/Diana, Matt, Nigel well done, yet again
  6. I SO LOVE that country.... only a year ago and I want to go again and again and....... Christian, Nadja, maybe we should plan something with our friends Down (further) South someday.....
  7. Very nice pictures, thanks for sharing.
  8. I don't use bulbs but T5, better for energy usage and long tanks. 2x 54 W T5 on a 47 inch tank if I do the conversion right (120 cm) works fine for me so i would gues at say 2x 36 watt for this smaller tank if it not very wide or very high.
  9. These ARE the Olympics of CP growing. We have weed throwing, squirrel shooting, Sarracenia jumping.....but seriously, no I don't think anyone thought of non-plant events for schedueling besides the local holidays.
  10. @David: Yes, not much time to save and first an EEE to go to....and the one after this is already in 2014! Anyway, it should be great fun
  11. I'll post any info on fieldtrips here (don't think they are on this forum, right?) as it becomes available, but that's up to the NECPS. Their proposal was chosen as the best offer. However. the location doesn't mean anything for quality of fieldtrips and of course there might be people willing to offer additional guided tours so to speak to those willing to travel. I had great fieldtrips after the Sydney conference, but had a real party after taking a plane from Sydney to Perth for a week of Dew-hunting Let's wait for the program first, shall we?
  12. A small but joyfull announcement on behalf of the NECPS : The New England Carnivorous Plant Society (NECPS) is thrilled to announce that we will be hosting the 2012 International Carnivorous Plant Society (ICPS) conference. The conference will be held August 11-13, 2012, with field trips following for several days afterward. The conference will be held at the Johnson and Wales University Inn in Seekonk, Massachusetts. The hotel and conference center is owned and operated by a renowned culinary and hospitality school. See http://www.jwinn.com/ for more information on the venue. There are several rooms reserved for our group. Our location is just 6 miles from downtown Providence, Rhode Island. With its airport, bus stations, and train station, Providence is easily accessed by both domestic and international travelers. We are also near two large international airports – about 3 hours’ drive from New York City and about an hour from Boston. More details on the conference will be announced as they become available. To join an e-mail list to receive conference announcements, please send a message to Emily Troiano, NECPS Vice President, at emily.troiano (at) gmail (dot) com.
  13. It's sort of a garlic spray/smoke. Harmless including for the bugs. We use something similair in public works to protect trees from pests. Does it work? Yes, to a point. It makes the plant/tree taste bad, so as long as there is a more tastier plant to go to (which might be a problem in a greenhouse). If not, the bugs do as we do on holidays in Southern Europe....get used to it or starve .
  14. The Ark of life website can now be visited. For those who missed this: Stewart McPherson set up a conservation foundation that aims to preserve endangered species in cultivation. This foundation is called Ark of Life. The first ark is the Rare Nepenthes Collection. In cooperation with the Hortus botanicus Leiden and the ICPS this ark has moored in Leiden, The Netherlands. The first residents have already arrived and are growing happily in the greenhouses thanks to the generous donors. I know, it took some time and not everything is working perfectly yet but it is really worth visiting: http://www.arkoflife.net/. There is also a Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ark-of-Life/147726941956397?sk=wall Let us know if you like it
  15. As we are staying on the tipsy side of this topic: Found your favourite drink on the net Vic: http://www.spencerfieldspirit.com/sheepdip.html Anyone tried it yet? Cheers
  16. Dear Sir, As an engineer I must strongly protest the implied suggestion! Nothing but a fine malt will do for the dealing with our in- and external fauna. Anyway, back on topic .....Still got the blues
  17. Phil, your warnings are highly valued. Please continue to do so...
  18. Hope she has a speedy and uneventfull recovery. Best wishes.
  19. cheapest one with decent results that I know of is Bresser junior 1.3 MP, something like 40 euro Good enough for most things if you want to practice before buying more expensive ones
  20. I met Nigel at Chelsea crewing the CP UK stand for a day, I ment that I prefer GWL to Hampthon Court. Chelsea is an event in a class of it's own....and I drive a Skoda, to many snobs driving RR's these days See you at the EEE, expect a very large part of the Dutch board and staff.....
  21. Yes Vic, the Floriade (which is more of a flowershow, it takes in landscaping and agriculture also) is once in 10 year, we just know how to keep things exclusive and I perceftly understand that Nigel has to make a living at the shows, he was doing a good job at it at Chelsea when I met him a couple of years ago. I just prefer Gardeners world live
  22. What! You want to tell me that some people actually are going to miss the CP-event of the year for a flowershow? You just have to many shows in the UK, you just can't plan around all of them
  23. After kicking out a website builder that wasn't going anywhere Stew put a new, decent team (same as his redfern site) on the job and the website is finally getting together. Test versions for lay out look great so expect the site to be on line not to long from now. In Leiden some donated plants have already arrived and more plants will hopefully follow. As soon as the site is working it will be posted. Short version: the project is fine, delays in showing that fact are caused by a bad website builder that has been replaced.
  24. Just a quick update, For those interested in hosting the conference (or any another large event), a manual/guide is now available. Just send me a pm or mail if you want it
