David Attenborough's Kingdom of Plants
Marcel van den Broek replied to HESSEL's topic in General Carnivorous Plant Discussion
Yeas, it sounds a bit strange/ slurred perhaps, but I think he is just saying not to EAT it, which makes sence as it refers to avoid getting stung on the tongue. -
David Attenborough's Kingdom of Plants
Marcel van den Broek replied to HESSEL's topic in General Carnivorous Plant Discussion
Yes, great quality as we are come to expect from Sir David. Some nice Drosera and VFT shots in the opening too. Can't wait for part 2. -
Anyone can help?
Marcel van den Broek replied to North's topic in Terraria - Cultivation & Equipment
Presuming your fans are blowing in the correct direction there are only two options that come to mind. 1. The airflow brings along the heat of your lights to your measuring point. 2. The fans themselves produce heat as they turn. To find out: take a handheld meter to take temperatures at several points including near the fans, inside, outside etc. -
That is correct. Toon Kuiper doesn't make much crosses himself. Toon has a Bromelia nursery 15 minutes driving from Aalsmeer and produces for the wholesale market. He also mass produceses some (like 10 or so) Nepenthes species for the garden centre market and those originate often from Matthew Soper. If you have been to the latest ICPS in Leiden you have seen his plants hanging from the stairs to the canopywalk (he was very kind to Carnivora ) Good quality, very reasonably prices in most case (of course Toon has no controle over the care and pricing the garden centre subjects plant and consumer too). Only minus: he is one of those people responsible for the large number of ventrata plants sold in gardencentres with a label alata. (and of course that he only sells wholesale).

Linnaeus and Dionaea
Marcel van den Broek replied to Nicolas de Lyon's topic in General Carnivorous Plant Discussion
It's not in the Linnaeus text of that book, I just checked. As far as I understand L didn't reject carnivory in a specific species, but as a whole for all plants on general (religious) principle. -
Can't actually very well stay away, now can I I'll be there

Peter Taylor
Marcel van den Broek replied to Nigel H-C's topic in General Carnivorous Plant Discussion
It was reported on the ICPS forum in November http://icps.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=5162 The June issue of CPN will have several articles about Peter and his work. -
I don't know if Paul is starting selling in march because of the weather or because he hasn't devided the plants yet but if you're anywhere near his nursery and make an appointment I'm sure you'll be welcome to look at the collection and pick something up or preorder. Paul and Jacky are very friendly, but you'll probably miss the entrance the first time on those ...... narrow and enclosed Hereford roads

Yes, both Mike and Aidan are good. Mike publishes his saleslist once a year but first he works through his wishlist. After that he sends the saleslist to the people in his mail directory for sales so you are better of contacting him and discuss what you want then waiting for a saleslist that is probably halfway sold already before you see it PJ is also good, http://www.pj-plants.co.uk/ and Nigel also has a good rep. http://www.hccarnivorousplants.co.uk/shop/

Prize Raffle in aid of (but not limited to) Arc of Life
Marcel van den Broek replied to Dicon's topic in Competitions
The Ark is alive but there are a few problems. Stew is the only one who can update the website and with his trips and books he doesn't have the time to do it (so far anyway). I have the codes for the website now, but Stew needs to give me an instruction so I don't wreck to much but trying to pin him down is difficult. Perhaps a skype session...... Anyway: the plants in Leiden are doing well, there have been some addittions and donated seeds have germinated well. Also I have some start up material ready for an Ark focussing on South African CP's which is waiting for an upload. I can put it on Facebook (that I can work) but I wanted to do both at the same time so I'm waiting for Stew. Bottomline: The ark can certainly use the money and also plant donations are most welcome. We just have to streamline the processes so to speak and maybe have a couple of volunteers to help with some functions (like the bloody website, I just have the codes burning in my pocket and I know just about zero about websites ) Just send Stew another mail a couple of days ago so hopefully we can set things up more efficiently in 2012. Sorry for the lack of information and updates guys. -

Plan for combined open weekend
Marcel van den Broek replied to Dianne Salter's topic in Open Days & Events
Sounds like real fun if I can fit it in "The Program" . Mike is always fun, it has been a couple of years since I was at Paul and Jackie's and I have never seen the famous Salter collection.... Great idea -
Hi Christian, I don't think that the seasons were off or the plant strangly small. I took this picture in late September 2008 in a rather wet year at this location. Not that much bigger. Perhaps the same site? Allan had marked the plants he had found so far with pink ribbons

Anybody know where i can get weather data
Marcel van den Broek replied to manders's topic in Talk About Anything
There are some online weatherstations, but you have to take a pic. You can find them by google typing online weatherstation as a search. It's a bity digging but the info is out there For instance: http://www.typhoon2000.ph/weather2.htm and of you then choose say Borocay you get: http://www.boracayweatherstation.com/ live feed with temperature, cloudbase, barometer, humidity, wind, rainfall, the works. edit: you might like this one: http://www.ptcdm.com/automatic_weather_station_online.html -

9th ICPS Conference USA
Marcel van den Broek replied to Marcel van den Broek's topic in Carnivorous Plant Societies
Hi David, I don't have all the information yet. In the September issue of CPN there is the info as known ATT but that issue hasn't dropped in my mailbox yet and I guess neither anywhere else in Europe so the main points in that publication are: Conference will be held 11 - 13 august at the Johnson and Wales Inn/conference centre. This is near Providence and they offer a group rate ($99/night). The fieldtrips will follow the conference, not much details on them yet except that the NECPS is looking at the NJ Pine Barrens and the famous Green swamp NC. You can subscribe to a mailing list for all updates by sending the NECPS Vice-President an e-mail: [email protected] -
Don't know who this is but please don't confuse this site with www.carnivora.nl, only 1 letter and the extention off but a totally different site, that of the Dutch CPS. Just a heads up as we are often also swamped by mail for people who don't know the difference between Carnivora and Carniflora

diatomaceous earth
Marcel van den Broek replied to nadja77's topic in General Carnivorous Plant Discussion
I know it's an approved food supplement for lifestock against worminfections in cows so it should be safe for use in/on mammals if you get the dose right. No idea how effective it is agains bugs.
