DORSET FIELD TRIP

Sunday 10th July

The field trip will be attended by Tim Bailey, past Chair of the CPS and the author of Carnivorous Plants of Britain and Ireland.

The field trip will visit 3 (maybe 4) sites around Wareham in South Dorset and will be an opportunity to see all 5 UK native drosera, some pinguicula and utricularia in their natural habitat and some introduced sarracenia.

All the locations visited are Sites of attend and I will send you a detailed itinerary.Special Scientific Interest and numbers will be restricted to avoid damage to the fragile environments.  No seeds or other plant material may be collected.

attached is a list of CP events in the UK from July onwards that haven't been cancelled yet.

In view of the current difficulties (understatement) it is probable that some or even all of these events may be subsequently be cancelled or re-scheduled to later in the year.

These events will be listed shortly on the CPS website at www.thecps.org.uk.  Any changes will be reflected as they occur.

The commercial growers will be going through a particularly difficult time but all will continue to operate on-line shops so please support them if you can.

For obvious reasons I had to cancel my usual June open day here in Paignton. Together with the cancellation of my usual half a dozen garden club talks and the cancellation of this years RHS shows I am feeling very deprived of the opportunity to talk CPs and meet other CP enthusiasts.

So what I thought I’d do is to have an open garden for the next three months so if you would like to drop in during this period you would be very welcome.

I have 3 greenhouses, cold frames and mini bogs all stuffed with CPs.

I have lots of plants available for sale at bargain prices or for swap.

You will have to maintain social distancing so I will have to limit numbers on each day.

We are a RHS Chelsea gold medal winning nursery based in North Yorkshire . In between our busy show season we will be opening the nursery to the public.

Everyone is welcome. Collectors and enthusiasts + curious novices . We are situated next to Scampston hall and walled garden, who apart from stately home, lovely gardens and parkland offer a cafe for refreshments. As our nursery does not have electricity we can only offer soft drinks. 

The dates are: The last weekend in June (29th and 30th) and the August bank holiday weekend (24th to 26th).

We welcome plants for swap or trade, will have some tables set up. We of course will have plenty of plants for sale ourselves. 

A unique opportunity to see a working carnivorous plants nursery, as well as a chance to meet up with other cp enthusiasts.

Friendly dogs (and customers) are welcome.

On April 20 you will be given the chance to visit this nursery and walk around the many rows of Sarracenias and Venus Fly Traps. In addition, it is possible to purchase plants (Cash payment, no pin!).

The day is organized by the Carnivora Working Group. They will welcome you at 10:00 am in the large hall and explain briefly what the intention is.

There are a few rules during this day:

It is not allowed to bring in plants. If you want to exchange or sell plants yourself, then there is the opportunity in the parking lot for the company.

It is clearly indicated what is available for sale and what is not. The request to respect this.

Outside this open day, the nursery is not open for visits or sales

Again: only cash payment.

The open day starts at 10:00 am and will end at 13:00 at the latest.

Be on time because the best examples are the first ones;)

    Now that spring is finally under way with lots of strong growth, I am pleased to announce here my open day.

There will be plenty to see with an expansion of the collection, a wide selection of plants in the sales house, plenty of food and refreshments and parking enough for 22 cars on our drive as we found out last year!
