	Hi,
</p>

<p>
	I am setting up my first bog (and I'm new to CPs in general with just a couple indoors).
</p>

<p>
	I have an amount of copper pipe left over from another project. Would this be bog-friendly as a watering tube running inside the bog, or would it release nasties into the soil?
</p>

<p>
	Thanks in advance

	Here is a few pictures from one of my bog gardens. These are located in central Jutland, Denmark. For many weeks now we have had unusual large amount of rain.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	As you can see Drosera filiformis filiformis are doing very well. These have been sown in the bog and are originally from Ocean co.

	This one is Drosera x hybrida. You can also see runners from one of the Darlingtonia clonal groups.

<p>
	There is a number of seed grown Darlingtonia clonal groups in this bog. They were sown by myself in 2017.  They seems to enjou our danish climate. During winter the leaves are gone, killed by frost.

	In Denmark, as in many other places in Europe, we have introduced populations of Sarracenia. Unlike many other places one of our populations are hybrids. Often these are very colorful. These two are stolen from an old introduced population.

	Hi guys,

<p>
	I'm looking for something a bit like in the picture in the UK to make my first bog garden on a balcony. Nothing big. Does anyone have any sites that may do the below? Biggish pot and deep tray.

	Have a bog garden outdoors with mostly hardy CPs like sarracenia, cobra lilys, butterworts, bladderworts and the three native Drosera. But with spring just around the corner i decided to buy some more to add to the outdoors collection. Included in this buy was the Albany Pitcher Plant which i knew was gonna be a gamble outdoors but im originally from Australia and i know how cold it can get in the south so i decided like i said to take a chance and see if it will survive outdoors in Wales. My main concern is the inevitable frost that can last more than a few days in winter here, but with my other CPs i just put a fleece tent over the whole bog garden (its not massive, probably like 2m squared in total) and they were fine. Ive read in places that it can be done but just to protect over winter and others make it seem like there really temperamental plants. Does anyone else here have any experience growing these outdoors in Uk climate? Or more specifically South Wales<img alt=":D" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="https://www.cpukforum.com/forum/uploads/emoticons/default_biggrin2.gif" srcset="https://www.cpukforum.com/forum/uploads/emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x" title=":D" width="20" />
</p>

<p>
	cheers

	My website shows how to succesfully build a bog garden for carnivorous plants in a climate as Denmarks. I have added a lot of pictures on the site, so please enjoy.

<p>
	Main thing is, do you think all plants should survive the winter. Are they hardy enough

	Hi Everyone,
</p>

<p>
	I've got some Belfast sinks and I'm wishing to make a bog gardens with them, but I believe it was on here I see a set up method using the plug/strainer with a pipe coming off the bottom threaded part running along the bottom of the sink then coming up the back on the outside of the sink stopping at the desired overflow height.
</p>

<p>
	Does anyone remember or know where this thread is please, as I have tried to find it again and failed miserably.
</p>

<p>
	Many thanks,
</p>

<p>

	Hello everyone,
</p>

<p>
	I wish to share with you some photos of a bog garden I made in my parents-in-law's garden. It is located in south center Poland. Hardiness zone 6B. Last autumn there was -15°C (5°F). Basically all plants lived through that including D. arcturi. That peat bog is in its third year after building. In some places it is too wet and Sarracenia produce phyllodia more than pitchers, so the soil humidity is the key factor for nice pitchers. Of course direct sunlight is also super important. I am experimenting with species, that might be hardy like U. dichotoma and U. monanthos and proved to be hardy. Darlingtonia califormica also lived well, but I think, that too much Seramis in previous mix might have caused its regress, so now it will have regular Sphagnum:perlite mixture. I hope it will improve now. I suspect D. regia could be also hardy, which I will check on the second peat bog made last year.
</p>

<p>
	This peat bog proved me that even in center Poland Sarracenia can look as good as in a glass house. I take basically no care of it. I visit it from time to time. I also don't have to water it, since it has around 600l water reservoir built inside it, so it keeps enough moisture to live through the most hottest days. Only when the Sphagnum dries too much I water it or refill the water reservoir a bit, because I don't want the Sphagnum to look unattractive. I should make a third acidic beat bog for Sphagnum carpet specifically, so it would keep loads of moisture, but there are not that many attractive plants I could plant there... and there is no space for it.
</p>

<p>
	I hope that below photos will inspire some of you to create one in your own garden if you have a possibility to. Hope you enjoy!

	Hello,
</p>

<p>
	New member here <span>:) </span>
</p>

<p>
	I am looking at creating at least 1 container bog garden for some carnivorous plants, but wondered if I am right in my thinking and would appreciate the help as a beginner.
</p>

<p>
	I have gained 2 Belfast sinks and as I will not be able to put any drainage holes in, and the overflow being right at where I'd plan to have the mediums surface level, I was planning to run a pipe through the plug with some holes about halfway up. However, and here entails my main question, I often see recommendations to line the container with a pond liner and don't know if that is necessary - am I missing something with my novice brain?
</p>

<p>
	And I believe I am right in this, but 50:50 Irish Peat Moss and Perlite with nothing below the medium (gravel etc) at the base of the container (and a sphagnum moss layer over the surface/around the plants)?
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Thank you for any help you can offer in advance.

	Could I use a big undrained concrete trough as a bog garden? If I can, the only problem would be where to put it and how to move it. I live in Texas, so should I put it in full sun? I’m afraid the sun will literally incinerate them.

	Back in February I posted a few photos of the 2,000l carnivorous plant bog that I had sunk in our garden.  What follows are a few photos of how it has grown over the past months.  It still needs a couple more growing seasons to fill-in but the plants have put on a good show for their first year.  Also completed, nine months after commissioning, is the pitcher plant sculpture that should help create year-round interest, even when the real plants are in their winter dormancy.  I have high hopes for next year!<br /><br /><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.cpukforum.com/forum/uploads/monthly_2020_08/scheme.jpg.415eddb80839c4a32beb059836fcdf6d.jpg" data-fileid="5306" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="5306" data-ratio="72.00" width="1000" alt="scheme.thumb.jpg.674a9a6d564be4490f3a2672cb8edf81.jpg" src="https://www.cpukforum.com/forum/uploads/monthly_2020_08/scheme.thumb.jpg.674a9a6d564be4490f3a2672cb8edf81.jpg" /></a><a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://www.cpukforum.com/forum/uploads/monthly_2020_08/851123455_DSC_9258(2).JPG.a8362b1dac28945402b0f179da098b4a.JPG" data-fileid="5253" data-fileext="JPG" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="5253" data-ratio="150.91" width="497" alt="1340384330_DSC_9258(2).thumb.JPG.0f7fa4ff57a20b02806e70f68a4a757d.JPG" src="https://www.cpukforum.com/forum/uploads/monthly_2020_08/1340384330_DSC_9258(2).thumb.JPG.0f7fa4ff57a20b02806e70f68a4a757d.JPG" /></a>

<p>Hello everyone,</p>
<p>
I'm thinking of making a bog area in my garden but there is one problem...</p>
<p>
The neighbours cats! As cats do they always come into MY garden and dig up plants and do there business in there. So I'm a bit worried about making a bog with these pests running loose.</p>
<p>
Any suggestions about to keep them out?</p>

	I live in North Texas, the temperatures are from 90-105 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer, and it can drop below 32 during winter nights. The ranges of humidity are 35-60 percent, but it is most often around 50. What plants could I grow outside all year?

<p>
	Hi all, so I know I've posted lots of pictures today but these are the last few! I got a vegtrug the other week and decided to try to turn it into a bit of a bog garden. I've watched YouTube videos and seen lots of pictures and have started to give it a go so fingers crossed I'm doing it right. The liner of the vegtrug lets a lot of water out so I lined the bottom so that the bottom inch collects water, I then used a drinks bottle with the bottom cut of to create a 'pipe' that I can water into so that it's kind of like watering into a saucer at the bottom. I've filled the container with a mix of coco peat, perlite and a bit of vermiculite. My plan is to add a layer of sphagnum moss on top, add the plants then fill in any gaps with some live moss. I really hope this is going to be ok for the plants!
</p>

<p>

<p>
	Note: this isn't where the vegtrug will be placed when finished! It just allows me to work on it while my son is playing!
</p>

<p>

<p>
	I'm not planning on having too many plants in this one. I'm hoping on adding a sarracenia or two, maybe a Venus fly trap, a cobra Lilly or maybe a sundew. I'm not really too set on what plants, I like to just add the first couple then work from there. Now I just need to get my hands on some live sphagnum moss!

<p>
	Hi,
</p>

<p>
	I've been looking to create a mini bog garden using the VFTs and sarracenias that I've been growing in pots for about a year. I want to put them all into a bigger pot. I've found that the premixed soil would work out quite expensive so I think I'm going to mix it up myself. Can someone tell me if all of this stuff is ok? From what I've read, I think I'm supposed to mix the peat and perlite at a 50/50 ratio and then I'm thinking of layering sphagnum moss on the top. I estimate that I'd only use about half of the substrate in the links below. Will this keep for future projects if I seal the bags up? I've read about using sand at the bottom. Is this necessary or can I skip that part?

<p>Hi again, </p>
<p>
Does anyone have any experience with making a carnvious bog garden in a Belfast sink? Since I won't be able to put holes in the side so it doesn't flood will this be a problem? </p>
<p>
I hope to pick it up tomorrow then I can start on it some time next week. Also I see a lot of posts about having upturned pots as a water reservoir in the mini bogs is that a good idea for bigger ones too?</p>
<p>
I'm hoping to put a few of theses in, probably not the Leucophylla, the baby Venus flytrap and the ping isn't looking too good since I moved in December. I tried having it in my kitchen window but I don't think it got enough sun so have tried it in my greenhouse but still doesn't seem any better, any advice would be greatly appreciated,</p>
<p>
Thanks</p>

<p>Hi all</p>
<p> </p>
<p>First post here! Couldn't find an answer to this anywhere so thought I'd ask opinions here. I am presently building a raised bog garden after having had a few tub/ planter style ones on the edge of a pond. My question is specifically around mulching over winter if I were to grow some of the more borderline hardiness plants in it (VFTs, Sarracenia psittacina etc.). I get a regular meat delivery and this is packaged with an insulating product called Woolcool (<strong><a href="https://www.woolcool.com/food/whats-being-said/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.woolcool.com/food/whats-being-said/</a>) </strong>and I was hoping someone might be able to tell if this would work to cover the bog? Its basically long sheets of natural wool in a biodegradable plastic liner. The sheets of wool can be removed from the plastic too if pure wool would be a better option.  I was thinking of keeping it slightly raised above the plants using a frame of some sort to give some airflow but for it to keep the worst of the frost etc. off? Any thoughts welcome and thanks for any advice!</p>
<p> </p>

	Last autumn I had a bog installed in the sunniest corner of our south-west facing rear garden.  Having been a collector of carnivorous plants for many years this modest-sized bog garden now affords me to develop a more permanent display in the garden. <br /><br />
	At around 3.5m (long) x 4.2m (at its widest), the total volume of materials required to fill it comprised: 1,600 litres of peat; 400kg of horticultural sand (lime-free, of course), 400 litres of perlite.  The compositional mix varies, depending on the intended location of the various plant types. <br /><br />
	Planting has started this weekend with 25x <em>Darlingtonia californica, </em>15x <em>Pinguicula grandiflora, </em>40x <em>Dionaea muscipula </em>with a further 25x butterworts, 35x Venus's flytraps, 65x sundews (including <em>Drosera binata, capensis, rotundifolia, filiformis, tracyii, anglica</em>), and 60x hardy pitcher plants (<em>Sarracenia flava, flava var. maxima, flava var. cupra, flava var. rugelii, flava var. rubricorpora, purpurea purpurea, purpurea venosa </em>and<em> purpurea heterophylla </em>and a few natural hybrids) to be planted later this month.  Sympathetic bog plants that are non-invasive will provide shelter to some of the more delicate carnivorous plant species.  On the raised railway sleeper platform at the rear, a specially commissioned 1.3m tall pitcher plant sculpture made by a master blacksmith will add year-round interest and a focal point for the winter months.
</p>

<p>
	If people are interested in seeing how the project develops, I will be updating this post periodically.  Message me if you want details of landscaper, blacksmith and nurseries and stone/growing medium stockists and I'll be happy to share these.  <br /><br />
	Really looking forward to getting this planted and for the summer to roll round!

<p>
	Hi Guys,
</p>

<p>
	I'm building a planter which I'm going to let settle over the winter before planting it next spring.
</p>

<p>
	I'm going to use the upturned basin design,I've seen on here.
</p>

<p>
	I'm thinking of surrounding the basin with horticultural grit,with about an inch covering the basin,then placing a layer of capillary matting over this before filling with the peat mix,would this be of any benefit,or am I over thinking it.The idea was to try to keep the reservoir free of muck.
</p>

<p>
	Also,would it be a good idea to put some sphagnum moss in the peat mix,or just as a type of mulch?
</p>

<p>
	Thanks
</p>

<p>
	Mark.

	Mid winter and all looking good. However, March is the toughest most here in Denmark.
