As connoisseurs of fine Lentibulariaceae, you probably already know, love, and have been occasionally frustrated by the pinguicula.org website. In recent years, I have been returning to consult the field reports and other materials on the page with some frequency. The resource contains a vast compendium of information but using it was made difficult by a combination of vintage design and lack of updates.

The updates and corrections are yet to come, but I have worked with Eric Partrat, the page's creator, to modernize the design and structure of the site.

For those interested in tech stuff and who might be amused by my process, I made a page documenting the migration of the website to Markdown.

	Hi all,

after a long time i'm here again. I want to show you the flower of my P. calyptrata. They comes from the ecuadorian andes. Or better, from the 'Cajas National Park' in Ecuador. The altitude from this park is beginning at 3.152m (!) and ends at 4.445m.

Very low temperatures are required for successful growing! At day i have 17 degrees Celsius and at night they drops down to 3-5 dregrees. If it is too warm, they will die very quickly!

I achieve these low temperatures in a converted mini fridge with a glass door. Some of you still know it from my U. campbelliana. These are still growing in this fridge with the calyptratas....

	best regards

	Hi everyone,

i lost one of mine P. planifolia. First I thought because of a fungus infection but then I saw some little yellow worms inbetween root system and leaves. They are app 1mm in length.

The leaves get yellow too in this area and die off. Roots are completley vital, white and strong.
Does someone of you have an idea what kind of pests this is?

Is anyone up to date on the current classification of Pinguicula heterophylla and P. medusina? I have encountered plants in various parts of the Sierra Norte and Valles Centrales regions of Oaxaca recently. They produce plantlets on their leaf tips, allegedly a hallmark of Pinguicula medusina, but do not flower in the summer, following expectations for P. heterophylla in that regard. Do all P. heterophylla really produce leaf tip plantets or is something else going on here?

I live in a really dusty part of town and my Pinguicula got covered in it and I'm wondering if there is any method for cleaning off all that dust. I've been thinking about letting the plant sit in the rain for a few minutes, since they live in the wilderness naturally, so there's no cover from rain water, but I don't want to damage the plant. Hello, everyone.

I have a lovely pinguicula gigantea. Last night I wanted to pull a leaf for propagation but unfortunately I also pulled the whole plant off of its bed. My concern is the plant has multiple crowns which I didn’t want to disentangle right now. I need advice on how to safely continue growing my ping. What I did was preparing a new soil mix which I filled a pot with. Because my ping has multiple crowns. I build a bit of “a hill” on top of the pot to put my ping on it so that the tiny roots can have contact with the new medium. It seems alright now but I am worried that I did not burry the roots like one does when reporting plants but pressed the plant on top on the soil. Help me figure out the best strategy with this. Should I just leave the plant the way I had repoted it or should I necessarily disentangle the crowns and pot them individually? My desire for now is to keep the crowns altogether but I will disentangle them if that’s what required for the plant to survive. Thank you.

	Hi all,

in the past i have already successfully made invitro with drosera seeds. Now i would like to try with Ping seeds. Especially with Pinguicula lutea. But these are soft shelled and must not be so hard sterilised like Drosera seeds.

Does anyone reveal a sterilise protocol? I would try a half strenght MS media with vitamins and pH 5.6.

For most drosera seeds for example i use 20% bleach for 3min and 2 times rinse with sterile water. It works great.

	Many thanks and regards

So i got an inspiration to mount pinguicula on a rock, with sphagnum ofcourse. I'm confused on which rock is safe and better. I'm afraid pumice will not suffice as it floats in water. Also, trays are necessary, as it is very hot here. Planning to mount some wessers and cyclosectas. The rock should be about 15 centimeters in length more or less and 10 centimeters on width. Plus maybe different points of height on each end to make it look 'natural'. I don't know much about pings. I kinda know about bladderworts and sundews, and some seedgrown flytraps. Cheers~*

Recently my Butterwort hasn't been looking great, some of its leaves are yellowing and patches of white mould are growing. It's on a South facing windowsill, so gets a good amount of sunlight, and is in a saucer with Deionised water in, that I let soak up before adding more. Would it be a good idea to cut off the bad leaves? I'd really appreciate any help.

I bought this Pinguicula 'Tina' maybe a couple of weeks ago from a local nursery. It has been sitting close to a window in a north facing side of the house, but without direct sunlight. I keep the substrate always moist. There is a lot of air circulation as the window is kept always open.

It started losing leaves to rot growing from the edges. At first I thought this was because of the humid substrate bulging out of the pot rim, so I removed some so it wouldn't touch the leaves. In the meantime I cut 2 leaves to try propagation. But now the rot is expanding faster and to younger leaves that are not even touching the substrate. It is putting out leaves and flowers at a fast pace, but I'm starting to fear the rot will outpace new leaf growth.

Temperature is currently above 25ºC during the day, so it's quite hot.

Is this a fungal infection? I sprayed fungicide today just in case.

Would more light help avoid this? Should I move it to a location where it gets direct sunlight until 9-10 AM?

	Any help is appreciated.

Pinguicula season is advancing in southern Spain.

Here, a large flowering clump of P. vallisneriifolia. One of my favourite species, fortunately still with several healthy populations with hundreds to thousands of plants.

This species typically grows on calcareous cliffs that are very wet year round, often with some running water. Cold in winter, with frequent frosts (but not or rarely freezing solid), and hot in summer, although the places where the plants sit remain relatively fresh.

It is one of the largest species, large adult plants may have leaves over 25 cm long!

	I hope you like it.

My Pinguicula primuflora seems to be dying. I got it yesterday and it came in spaghnum moss and some Styrofoam pieces. I kept it that way and put it under my grow light. However this morning, the leafs looked really limp and after doing some research, I quickly reported it in 1 part peat and perlite. Is there a way I can revive this plant?

Hi! I'm a complete newbie when it comes to carnivorous plants whatsoever, but I do own a bunch of orchids. I have just found out that this particular ping is a great companion to orchids, plus it looks super cute, so I thought I'd give it a shot!

But before I go ahead and make a purchase online (they don't seem to be available in Finland), I tried to find some general care tips to increase my chances of success in growing this plant. Forgive my total ignorance, but from what I have already gathered, these are warm growers (perfect for me as I can only grow it on a windowsill), and they require that their soil stays damp, less so in winter. I've understood that in winter they start their dormant period and their leaves change, and as such they don't require bugs to survive. Correct me if I'm wrong - they do require some type of bug-food source to thrive outside of their dormancy, and if so, what is it that they need specifically. Are they self-sufficient during the spring-summer-fall months or do I have to do anything extra for them apart from the waterings? In summers I tend to get a lot of fruit flies, which isn't the case during fall-winter months, but will these type of flies do?

Also, I've managed to find a seller of this plant online who ships from Hungary to Finland, but knowing they don't tolerate the cold, I'm worried if buying it now won't mean its certain death. What would you do? Buy or wait until it's warmer outside? Currently, it's around -10C/-15C around here.

Sorry for the long and very basic questions, but I haven't been able to find anything about this, as everyone here seems to already possess the basic knowledge already! Thank you so much for your help!

	Hey

	So I've got 2 Pinguiculas:

	P.'weser'x jaumavensis

	P.zecheri x jaumavensis

Just wondering what sort of media these guys should ideally be in (closest to their natural habitats in Mexico).

I have read that they grow in alkaline pH soils, lime etc..

What would the pH ideally be if I go and buy say, garden lime or something?

	Cheers
