Full Version: Lighting my baby plants as a beginner

I had been trying to get a good lighting system for a small area to keep my seedlings(VFT,Sarr.en Drosera) going over the winter.

After having trouble finding shop lights (either too big or the smaller ones not enough light) I decided I'd go for those
energy saving lamps.

I bought myself 4 Philips Tornado screw-in bulbs (so I can use them later somewhere else in the house) and put those in place.

I went with the 20W bulbs, each having a 115W output(together 5000+ lumen) and after a few days my VFT traps started to get a nice dark red, same for the little hairy things on my drosera's and my sarracenia seedlings are sending up new pitchers. connie_rockingbaby.gif

Great you solved the problem,my first plants i was exactly like you i had 5 screw-in bulbs each of 32 W and i had 9000 lumens which i placed over maybe 7 plants(no joke) .I was very hard to find good bulbs for my plants so later i buyed o the internet good lighting equipment and now all the plants smile when i come home :).

I find CFLs to be quite good at colouring up plants. The VFT pictured below grows under a 15W CFL and as you can see it has nice colour...
