Hi,

Excuse my ignorance because it may be obvious, but could someone more informed than myself please tell me the differences between H.elongata and H.nutans. I have several plants of each (different locations) and to be honest if the labels were mixed up I'd never know the difference. Is there some heliamphora conspiracy I dont know about?

A little teaser

Thanks

I'm sure somone on here will know what the characteristic differences are (i would look in one of my books but they're at home and i'm not) rolleyes.gif , I would be the same as you if i muddled them up. In answer to your teaser, i would guess Pic.A is the H.nutans and Pic.B is the H.elongata biggrin.gif

Great looking plants by the way icon13.gif

Ben.

Edit: Actually, now i'm thinking both are H.nutans happy.gif . H.elongata (in the wild anyway) are much taller.

Hi,

The difference is difficult to see with plants when they are not mature adults.
The lid of H. elongata is helmet-shaped, but more concave than the lid of H. nutans.
The pitchers of H. elongata are longer too, the pitcher opening of H. nutans are wider then the pitcher opening of H. elongata.

I think (I'm not sure) the first one is H. nutans and the second one is H. elongata.

Hi Simon,

both plants look like H. nutans. I do not see any characteristics of H. elongata in both plants.

Maybe another view from the side of the plant would help. Just look at this typical habit:
